Mods: This is not a FS thread. Thanks.

Been offered one of these with 62k on it, in silver, in quite tidy condition.

Has about 6 months MOT but no tax.

Thoughts?

Mk1 1.6 (all markets) to 93 had 114bhp.
Mk1 1.8 came out around 93 with 128-133bhp depending on market & year.
JDM 1.6 continued to 98 with 114bhp.
UK 1.6 was discontinued with the launch of 1.8.
UK reintroduced the 1.6 in 94/95 with a modified & reduced power engine (88bhp) which continued to 98. This was introduced as a lower tax/insurance option, nothing to do with differentiating it from 1.8 (1.6 114bhp & 1.8 were offered together in Japan).

Mk2 was launched in 98. 1.6 110bhp and 1.8 138bhp.
Mk2 was face-lifted in 2001 (Mk2.5) and the 1.8 was given VVT and a small power increase to 146bhp.

Sills are fine, small bit of surface rust but nothing major.

Arches are fine and interior is clean as hell.

Check those sills out properly. They usually rust from the inside out so often by the time you see surface rust it means they have rusted right through. Unless there are stone-chips in the paint there shouldn't be surface rust on the sills.

The days before you found out that one bubble in the paint meant rusted to buggery inside? biggrin

1.6l cars arent great, but theyre not a bad proposition for forced induction. Proper corrosion repairs shouldnt cost a massive amount and then youll be one of a very few NB owners who know that their sills are good!

I've been there too on a '98 Mk2.

It's not surface rust, these rust from the inside out and I guarantee it will be alot worse underneath. Budget circa £600 to sort sills and arches properly. You should also check out the boot just above the numberplate, that's also a favourite rust spot.
