Hi

I have a reasonably smart dark green Mark 1 eunos with a scruffy matt black hardtop.

I want to get it painted in a eyecatching contrasting or complimentary colour. Metallic. Pearl. Gold. Something...

I've seen a blue MGF with a cream hardtop which looked nice and retro which has given me the idea.

Any thoughts girls and boys?

I'd stick with the body colour. I've yet to see a non-colour coded HT that looks good.

I don't think it'll work well but I guess you could try "tan" like some of the soft tops.

Take a photo or 2 and try a bit of basic photo shopping of the colour.

That is a good idea. I'll ask someone I know who is good at that sort of thing.

I was in Looe last month and saw an MX5 California with a metallic blue hardtop. That didn't work for me.

In the past I've tried to visualise what a hardtop painted a matte dark grey (to emulate a soft top) would look like. My GF has a splash green mk2.5 and not only would a matching h/top be hard to find but I think it would be a bit much too.

Ah yes of course, that's why most of the greens have tan interiors. getmecoat

Id have it refinished in Brilliant Black if I were you. My NB is Brilliant Black and I had to pay a very strong price to get one in the right colour. The reason of course, was that if you cant get your own colour, then you buy black which increases the demand greatly.

If you paint it in an obscure colour then you really limit your resale market, but paint it black and everyone can use it.

Plasti dip might work well and be a cheap solution...

It's tricky to decide. Gloss black is the"safe" bet I suppose. I know a carbon effect vinyl wrap would work but might be sad. Then there's an old fashioned leather look vinyl. I was actually inspired by the Lotus Elan +2 cars from the early 70's which often featured silver metalflake roofs regardless of body colour. People tell me metalflake is a swine to do though.

Cream?

There's a huge thread full of pics of nothing but green cars here - maybe if you trawl through them all you might see something that suits:

There is always a market for Brilliant Black hardtops in good condition. I have one on my Silver Mk1, the windscreen surround and door mirrors have been painted black to match the hardtop.
