Hey all!

I've owned my beautiful Eunos for the last few years (having bought it from fellow PHer Kinky) and I've got to say that other than needing to change the leads, it has given me miles and miles of trouble free motoring!

However, a combination of rust and country roads led to the tailpipe coming away from the muffler this Thursday and whilst I'm looking to order a new exhaust today I was wondering if it driving with no tailpipe for the next two weeks (a couple of Bristol-Swindon commutes and about 20miles of country lanes most days in between) would risk a catastrophic failure either mechanically or in mpg terms?

I only ask as I'd really like to replace the exhaust myself but can't get home to the necessary kit until towards the end of the month.

Cheers!

I assume you mean the pipe off the back box? I don't think it should cause any problems at all. It shouldn't really cause you to lose any MPG either.

Be careful. If the missing tailpipe means that the exhaust is now exiting into the rear bumper (as mine did) it can melt the bumper (as mine did frown )

Something similar happened to mine, although there were a few holes elsewhere too. At first I ignored it and noticed little difference except a loss of back pressure and slight loss of MPG which wasn't the end of the world. Eventually I couldn't take the rasping, farting noise coming from the exhaust any more and shelled out, IIRC, £100 for a new one via Euro Car Parts.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll hold off and attempt a home fitting. I did wonder about the possibility of the bumper melting or catching fire, but hopefully as most of my driving will be out of town the airflow will keep things fairly cool.

I've got a spare exhaust in my cupboard, good condition since it only came off to make way for the new one. Drop me a PM if you're interested at all. thumbup

I wouoldn't.

My tailpipe fell off - again due to rust and rubbish corrosion etc.

50 miles on the motorway at a good speed so plenty of airflow I had a lovely melted bumper.

So then I needed a new bumper AND a new exhaust.
