My 91 MX-5 has developed a very odd 'jingling' noise, somewhere from the rear nearside. It seems to happen when I hit bumps, and it sounds like a metallic, tinkling/ jingling noise. I thought the spring might be broken, but i've had the wheel off, and all seems tight and secure. I also checked various other bushes and anti roll bar and drop links, and nothing seems to be moving.

I did think it was my toolkit or roll in the boot clinking together, but the noise is still there after removing them.

Any ideas?

Have you looked in the little flappy compartment on the left of the boot where the jack lives?

Yep, i've checked the boot, and jack. The pads will be worth looking at the weekend, although the noise is still there under braking.

Mine does this as well. Easy to diagnose if it's coming from the brake pads by left foot braking whilst driving along. If it goes away, it's your pads, if it's still there, start looking elsewhere.
Should be rectified by replacing the pads and the associated spacers/springs.

Found the culprit, but i'm not sure what part it is, or whether it'll cause issues. The outer silver insert is loose and moves around. It is the end of the driveshatft where it enters the hub. does anyone know if its a hub off job to sort? I had the wheel bearing replaced a few months ago, but the assembly looks a bit different to the other side, almost like something is missing.

I'm a mechanical numpty. :-(
