I keep seeing lots of modified MK1 Mx5's, to the extent i've not seen a really nice standard one in ages....

I'm planning on keeping mine in nice standard spec, partly because I think it's pretty difficult to modify Mx5's without losing some of the original intended character, and partly because it's almost got to the stage where it's 'different' not to modify one!

I'm now starting to think that nice original Mx5's will be a rare breed soon, anyone else think that values will start to increase?

As tatty rusty stuff becomes the norm, decent unmodified solid cars will command a premium, but I don't think prices are going to start rising any time soon!

Have you two noticed your usernames are a perfect fit?

If the pound ever gets near it's previous strength the imports will start again and there will be lots more rust free fairly standard Mk1s coming in, that will keep the values of existing good examples fairly low.

Yes your quite right, there arent too many nice standard mk1's avout but as also stated as soon at the pound recovers imports will put paid to that for a while

I disagree. Modifications do nothing to resale value unless they are particularly rare or sought after mods and even then it will only put the price up slightly if someone wants a car with that particular mod. Equally an unmodified car will be worth no more. These are old cars now so most people expect them to have at least a few "service" mods such as replacement suspension and a completely standard car will potentially need some work done to it sooner or later and the price will reflect that.

MK1's are incredibly difficult to value anyway IMO as prices seem to be all over the place.

I currently have my 1.8S Special at 80,000 miles up for £1595.00. I dont really know if thats the right sort of money as I haven't had massive amounts of interest but it seems comparable to others available at the same time.
