Woke up yesterday morning to find that some complete scum bag has keyed my car! I really despair at the level of stupidity in this country sometimes...

There is a fairly deep scratch running along the side of my car... it is pretty much the length of the front and rear wing, and about an inch of the door.

I am based in Tunbridge Wells - any ideas where I could get it repaired without paying a silly amount?!

Many many (MANY) years ago I had an old, faded, beaten up MkIII Cortina. It was a bit crap but I decided to try to make it look presentable by respraying it myself using rattle-cans. I did the drivers side front wing first and was pleased with the result so I did the drivers door too. That came out well too and the colours matched well (surprising spraying dark metallic blue with rattle-cans) so I carried on and did the rear wing with similarly good results. I now had a car that looked good down one side. I carried on and spent ages getting the bonnet just right. it was all looking very nice.

One night we used my car for a night out in Norwich (where I lived when I were young) and when we got back to my car it had been keyed. Only across the 4 panels I'd resprayed. Deep, right down into the metal. WHY???? The car was a st-heap but I'd spent a lot of time & effort, not to mention money in an attempt to tidy it up.

Most people are good but it only takes one idiot to ruin things for everyone else.

Probably worth researching mobile repairers in your area. I had one come round and sort out the front of my Jag. Did a great job, couldn't be happier.

Opportunist little shit. Probably walks this route regularly on the way to school/dole so might be worth getting a little video recorder (one of those ones you can reset every couple of days if nothing happens - i'm looking into getting one) - not that it's likely to happen to your car again, lightning never strikes etc etc. Random stupidity.

There's also the possibility of a handbag scrape. Some of the metal clasps and general bling that ladies have adorning their bags can make for nasty scrapes when they're not careful walking past your P+J.

Did you look at other cars on the street to see if the st did it to a number of cars as they walked along the road? If so it might be worth getting the Police involved.
