Forgot how much fun my mk1 is, it spends most of it's time under 3000rpm trundling in traffic in city centre Manchester so today I went for a blast over the pennines. Out of Greenfield, up the side of Dovestones, over the tops, down to Slaithwaite (stop for a brew at the Vanilla Bean - top cafe).

Then back over a road known as Nonts Sarah's after a pub up there and where the hang gliders take off from (not today - too windy). I was cruising back taking it kind of easy until I see a very keenly driven TVR Cerbera appear in my rear view mirror.

Didn't take long before I thought what the hell, drop a gear and let him chase me. I flew down the hill, which is well sighted and all within the speed limit but had a proper chuckle as I gained a car length or two in the bends only for the beast of a 4.2 Cerbera to easily catch me back up. I probably took off a few times and I heard the shocks hit the bump stops but what the hell, not every day you get to have a drive like that!

He blasted past me on the straight section right at the bottom of the hill and I gave him the thumbs up, it sounded awesome with the pops and bangs from the exhaust.

An ace loop if anyone wants me to post the route I will, wish I'd got a pic of the TVR as well but I was 100% concentrating on the road ahead (and my rear view mirror!)

Another good bit is drop into Holmfirth turn right and go over Holme past the mast and down onto the Woodhead turn left and work way around to Holmfirth again before heading over Nont Sarah's.
We can carry on!! at the carpark on the Nont Sarah's turn right for Barkisland and work your way either back round to Saddleworth or fork right at the traffic lights aim over to Rochdale and Hollingworth Lake.

Think the Cayman is coming out tomorrow LOL

Having come from years of driving V8's, V6's, and straight 6's, plus some 2.0 turbo'd cars i was surprised at just how much fun my 1.8 mk2 is. I've just brought my wife a mk1 Eunos 1.6. Both are manual (my only stipulation for smaller engines) and are fantastic 'drivers cars'. They have that rare X-factor that's sadly missing from many cars today. Enjoy!
