I looking to buy a mk1 MX5 my budget is pretty tight but still want to make sure i get the right one. i want the 1.8L but which version?

having look around it apears there are a few different specs for mk1 1.8L mx5s and tbh im struggling to identify which ones have what.

looking around it apears that they came with 2 different amounts of horse power but i dont know if its the earlyer ones, later ones, miatas, eunos, inports or uk spec that have more power and there are several special editions that i also dont know about.

can you guys point me in the direction of a wiki or spec list for all the mk1 1.8l Mx5s or take a shot at explaining the differance here?

Eunos is import with LSD. Try and get 1994. Onwards

Buy this. Buy on condition , watch out for rust

Stop thinking about bhp. It makes almost no difference at all. 1.8 came with 128 to 133 bhp depending on year/market but the weight varies by more so you really won't notice. The earlier 1.6 had 114bhp but was lighter and loves to be thrashed so on the road there is pretty much no performance difference. Other than on a drag strip a 1.8 will not lose a 1.6.
As said above, buy on condition. The engine isn't important.

...I can only reiterate what people have said, 1.6, 1.8, there is little difference in it... If money is tight buy on condition only or your tight budget will be blown apart on new sills and othe rust issues....my advice, get on the forums and see if you can buy a car from somebody in an owners club, and one that's in weekly use....this should have the issues resolved rather than glossed over and I think as with all cars, they benefit from regular use...(I run my one at least once a week for 50 miles, keeps brake calipers from sticking etc)...

I think you need to go out and view a few different ones, so you can see the difference between good ones and bad ones and also see which colour/spec you prefer.

This link has all the different editions on
