What bhp have I got ?
Discussion
Hi iv got a 1.6 mk2 mx5 on a 98s reg iv had it for a few months and I love it to bits it's a great drive and has anothe poke to enjoy your self but iv read I few blogs and it seems after 95 the 1.6 was de tuned to about 96bhp but some say the power crept up over the years back to the original 116bhp but I don't know if that's true and if it is what sort of bhp my should be running ?
It's not important but it would be good to know Thanks.

Original Mk1 1.6 had 114bhp.
JDM 1.6 always had 114bhp.
European market Mk1 1.6 had a reduced power engine with 88bhp from 1995. This was introduced as a low insurance option alongside the 130bhp 1.8.
Mk2 was introduced with 1.8 that started with 138bhp and was increased to 146bhp with the VVT engine in the Mk2.5 2001 onwards. Mk2/2.5 always had 110bhp.
So the straight answer to your question is, 110bhp
