Does anyone happen to be using an Adaptronics ECU on their '5? I'm struggling with the mapping on mine and could really do with some pointers if anyone can help out. This is for a converted Mk1 running a Mk2.5 1.8 engine.

Yep. What do you need to know? I'm no expert but I'll give it a go biggrin

Excellent.... Where do I start? wink

Got holes all over the place but mainly as follows:

Cold start up / cold idle is really lumpy. Trouble is, if I increase the cold speed idle, the hot idle also increases and it sound like I'm revving the nuts off the poor thing.

Really lumpy at around 1200-1800 in 5th. The car has a tendency to almost bump off/on before resuming usual duties.

Bloody painful over 6,000 rpm as the car can judder (Rev limiter has been adjusted up to 8k). Change gear and try to accelerate and the damn thing coughs like a chain smoker and almost dies.

Lets just say that at this point in time I'm open to suggestions.

Sounds like it just need s a lot of fuel tuning. Do you have WBO2, MAP & AIT sensors?

+2 you *need* a WBo2 - then at least you can use adaptive tuning and closed loop will work well.

Cold starting/running is one of the biggest PITAs on these ecus - im only just getting mine close after 2 months of tinkering!

Thanks for all your responses. I do know that I have an Innovate LC-1 wideband lambda sensor but beyond that I'm nit wholly sure what I have. Any pointers or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well the LC-1 is the WBO2.
There should be an Air Temperature Sensor somewhere in the intake tract. If it's not forced induction this can be anywhere from the intake manifold to the air-filter.
There should also be a MAP (manifold air pressure) sensor. This should be fed from the intake manifold by a vacuum hose. Again, if it's not forced induction then it doesn't need to be a MAP sensor that has to handle boost but the ecu will still need to know how much vacuum it is dealing with, combined with the air-temp in order to calculate the amount of fuel required. I have no idea whether the Adaptronic can get a feed from the stock MAP sensor. Richy might be able to help with that.

Where do you live?

Seems as though I'll need to do more digging around under the bonnet. South Bucks by the way. Thanks for all your help so far.

Can you connect to the adaptronic with a laptop?

If you could get a copy of the current map your running i can take a look.

Also i recommend joining the Adaptronic forum - The guys on there are very helpful!

Sorry. Been out and about trying to get a number of things sorted and this has slipped down off the 'immediate' priority list. I hope to have some time in the next couple of weeks to come back to this thread and respond to both you and NeoVR. I'm not that far from Wokingham and would welcome comments / suggestions etc. (Please note that the paintwork needs no comment wink )

Like I said, I'm no expert but I'd be happy to give it a look over even if it's just a matter of confirming what you have on there wink
