I stripped a 1994 Eunos about a year ago for a kit car build. That is coming to an end now but ive noticed that the gear change is very difficult, you have to really force the shifter into the gears.

Prior to stripping it the gear change was fine.

There is no fluid loss in the reservoir. Is there any way i can check the master and slave cylinders to determine if its one of these thats the issue instead of just hoping its them and changing them?

Ive bled the system but is there a chance that i havent bled it enough? would this be a typical problem with not bleeding them enough?

Apologies for all the questions but im hoping someone can help me out.

How stiff? My Eunos was on a forecourt for six months or so, and took a month/six weeks to get shifting properly again.

Youve got to put a bit of force into the gear changes. Im going to bleed it again tomorrow, more thoroughly, to see if thats the helps things. Like you said it may be because its been sat for so long.

My road going mx5 is stiff to change in the cold mornings take a couple of minutes to free up a bit, i wouldn't say it was anything to do with the clutch, master or slave cylinder. With it not being used for 1 year + then it's down to being sat and not used change the gearbox oil may help aswel.

Checked the slave cylinder today and it seems fine. I didnt get around to changing the gearbox oil of bleeding the clutch better, hopefully tomorrow.

How's your build coming along Chris?

Hi Matt,

I had this recently, changed the slave cylinder still the same. Changed the master...problem solved.

Thanks for that link. You mentioned in your first post in the thread about the bite point being instantaneous, thats exactly how it is on mine. I'll remove the master cylinder tomorrow and have a good look at it

Yep instant 'bite' but if you pump it a few times it's ok?

Not sure theres much you can see tbh. I'd start with the slave as it's cheap and relatively easy to change. The masters also pretty straightforward but about three times the price.

Worth changing the gear box and turret oil, it helped with mine. Link here http://www.miata.net/garage/trans/everything.html

for what its worth, my 1.8 takes a good 20 mins. before the box loosens up espeically 1st to 2nd can be a pig

Also there's a white plastic grommet where the gear stick goes into the gearbox, make sure it is still present/intact, was once left marooned after this broke and I couldn't select a gear, but prior to that changing gear was increasingly hard.
