I'm looking for a little guidance as the classified asking prices are all over the place. I've been offered £5,000 trade, by a big used car supermarket for my exceptional, extremely low mileage, Galaxy Grey, 2007 Mk3 2.0 Sport Tech. If the dealer is offering £5,000 trade, what am I likely to get as a private sale? I'm not greedy and I am looking for a quick sale as I need a 4x4 now to pull a trailer. Should I expect £500, £750, or a grand more. The car is a very well looked after and honest car, having only just marked up 30,000 miles with FSH. An indication of what a fair price to ask would be, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Big car supermarkets are notorious for offering a low trade in price.

Have a quick look in the classifieds, I'm sure you'll see what other similar cars are going for. If you want yours to sell quickly then obviously price it correctly.

Your car is a sport not sport tec.

Prices fluctuate & when the sun comes out they go up!

Private you could try £6495 & see what happens, just depends how soon you need to sell.

If the condition is commensurate with the low mileage then asking 7K would seem reasonable. Plenty of other similar cars being offered at similar prices ATM.

Of course, whether you will get any interest and strike a deal at any where near this price remains to be seen.

The condition is very much indicative of the low mileage. £6,500 sounds like a great deal for a car I am happy to put my PH reputation on and underwrite (were it possible). This is a cracking little car and I wouldn't consider selling it other than the fact I have a TVR sports car, a race car, now a RR pull car and no room for 4 cars plus a trailer! The problem is, there's hundreds of them for sale at any one time and via several media. How do I make it stand out and effectively personally guarantee it's faultless mechanical condition?

To sell it - make it stand out to the enthusiasts.

Mention that its had full 4 wheel alignment (it, has, hasnt it?) Mention that is got the correct ride height (ditto).

Mention that its a genuine sport - so that should mean 6 speed box, locking diff, bilsteins on a mk3 right?

These are all things that will matter to the kind of person buying one to 'drive', but none of it gets mentioned in your typical main dealer / autotrader type ad.

Good pictures, roof up & down. Ph, Ebay, Trader, MX5OC and MX5Nutz...
