Hello peeps,

My dad has a mk.1 and I'd like to get him a related present; say up to £100 or so, so presumably not a supercharger conversion....

It's a standard dark green import V-spec 1.6 with tan interior and Nardi wheel, no mods at all as far as I'm aware. He'd probably like more noise, or grunt, but are there any really useful accessories or modifications that you guys would recommend? Ideally something mx5 specific rather than (say) tools or cleaning/maintenance stuff.

Many thanks!

For a little bit more noise and grunt you could buy him a de cat pipe. They cost about 40 quid I think. If the car in question is pre '93 then you don't even need the cat to pass an mot.
Check out mx5parts for other ideas.

So my 92 1.6 would be fine to run with one? This is fantastic news.

How about a geometry session at WIM, Rodissons or similar - should make a decent difference to how it drives (it certainly did on my mk3), and should be right on budget...

Should do yes. I have a '93 and havent had any problems at MOT time. Makes the backfire nicely on the over run smile

Trackday and go with your dad and take members of family shared memories and experience. Where you based?

^this.

Or a drift-day, car-control day, tickets to JapFest, tickets to watch MaX5 racing etc.

Thanks for suggestions chaps - we went with books and some nice wine in the end (Lee, you were close!), and had a nice day at the Silverstone VSCC, but a de-catted exhaust would be a good option at some point. He's been to plenty of trackdays with me but isn't really into doing them himself. [Hmmm.... get myself a trackday for his birthday? smile]

Set of P5's frame rails on a GB will cost about that.
Best improvement for that sort of money I reckon - better handling, reduced scuttle shake etc.
Cheers, Volumex.

Just back from a single seater experience at Thruxton, that also included 1 hot lap in a standard MX5 with an instructor.

OMG do they chuck that little MX5 around. Very impressive, especially when someone out in the Aventedor was holding it up in the corners LOL.

From what I could see anyone could turn up pay £10 for a hot lap in the MX5. Add 2 hot laps in the race peugot 2 seater on slicks for £40, as that seemed to also blow people's minds.
