Been looking at a few mx's online now and one has popped up nearby on fleabay.

It's a 98 mk2 RS 1.8, obviously an import but cat C. For sale at an eBay car dealer so maybe a little bit of comeback. Tis is what they had to say when I asked about the damage

"It was ridiculous.. It needed a repair on the front wing and a wing mirror... That was honestly it... The wing mirror main dealer is about £300... So would the repair be at a dealer... Hire car would of been about £400 ish... They write cars off at 60% now... It didn't have any suspension damage etc"

Going to try and have a look today. As it is only for a track day car, I'm thinking it might be worth the risk if I can get it for the right price

Has anybody got any tips/thoughts on going down the cat C route ?

I don't have much experience with cat c cars (at least I hope, I never did HPI check my car) but there's been quite a few stories on mx5nutz where cars have been written off for as little as a broken bumper and dented bonnet etc. So the one you're looking at does seem quite plausible.

Completely possible that the system has been written off for the above reasons. The main thing is that you pay a price that is appropriate for a Cat C since, when you sell it on, potential purchasers will want to do exactly the same.
