Hi all, I've just recently bought a 1996 Mk1 1.8 MK1 in black as a summer car / restoration project. Its standard spec entirely with the airbag wheel. I'm currently in the process of changing most things ie. suspension, bushes, brakes the lot basically so everything will be as new again. I'm not really after a modded look as its not really my thing if anything I'll change to some coilovers and keep them at a decent ride height as i'm not 18 anymore and want to be scraping the crap out of the car everytime i go over a speed bump. I like things to look OEM with the odd tasteful change more of a retro look maybe. I like the rev9 autosport website as a general place to buy parts but this is kind of pricey when you start adding things up.

Anyway as a start point I was thinking of changing the wheels to an 15" which is an 1" bigger than standard as I feel although I like the look of the original alloys they are slightly too small in the arch. So I think a 15" would be the best bet no bigger. I've just managed to purchase some OZ Superleggera 15" x 7 et37 off ebay that are in need of a refurb. I'm still undecided on them at present, as I dont think they are the look i'm after but hey ho. So in the mean time would anyone be kind enough to post up a picture of there Mk1 mx5 / Eunos in black (if possible) with these wheels in different finishes. ie. SIlver, anthracite. I had a e39 BMW M5 for a good few years and always liked the shadow chrome finish so was thinking maybe this would look good on these wheels as the car is black too. Thoughts? I just want it to look right.

Thanks for any help in advance!
Andy

I always liked the Rota RB wheels I had.I thought they were not too over the top, but offered a nice bit of dish with a classic look.Mine were gunmetal grey, but I also liked them all silver and even gold with the same polished lip.Watanabe wheels of a similar style offer up the same look minus the dish, but you tend to pay for the name.

I also had them on a red one for a while..

Also worth checking out pics on here for your own wheels...

This will make you laugh.

We (my wife) has a poverty spec 88 bhp mk1 mx5 (Monza)

It has no airbag, but it is BRG and does have a glass rear window, and meaty exhaust note from a stainless cobalt cat back (not too loud but very deep)

It has 185/60/14 5 spoke standard alloys circa 1997, but I'm fitting 185/60/14 7 spoke Daisies Off a Eunos circa 1991, because I think they look nicer.

I'm honestly of the opinion that OUR lack of power, is enough reason not to go for anything wider, as it would spoil the fun.

Anyway, the question you should be asking is "what is the lightest wheel?"

Unsprung weight (lack of) is critical to a nice drive.

That red car pictured above was the 90 bhp model and was still a massive hoot to drive.Adding my 15" wheels to it made very little difference in the smiles per mile/chuck it round a B road stakes.

My first car came with the non-polished 14" version of the wheels below (pic is of the new car I just picked up) and they are extremely light and strong. They can be purchased quite cheaply if you want something different to daisy wheels. The polished ones in the pic are more rare and still sell for £235 EACH at mx5parts!!

I like the Rota RBs for the retro look and I think they look good on a black car. What width are they? I'm guessing an 8 inch? Are they available in bigger offset to push them back in the arch a little. With regards to weight, I think I've already just bought one of the lightest set wheels around, if I'm not wrong? The OZ's weigh in at just 4.9kg or so I've read.
