MKII MX5 Electric aerial
Discussion
Could someone with a MKII MX5 possibly tell me whether their electric aerial goes up when the ignition is on? Mine seems to be broken and makes a clicking noise for about 20 seconds when the ignition is on, even when the radio is off!
I would have thought the aerial would try and come up when you turn the radio on, as you wouldn't want it up all the time?!
Have disconnected it for the time being but was going to have a go at repairing it, just wanted to know what it should be doing in the first place.
I don't think the head unit is original (pioneer?) - but again, can anyone let me know what it left the factory with? My car's a 10th Anniversary Edition.
Thanks in advance!

No idea when it turns on - my 10AE that I had before would put it up when the car was turned on but the radio unit was on all the time (albeit the radio didn't work). With my current car I have a fixed aerial.
Assuming it doesn't go up at all then the clicking sound is almost certainly due to the nylon bit that pushes the aerial up being broken. When they get old they become brittle and snap. Pretty easy fix - I have no mechanical experience and did it. There are a few guides on youtube. The only problem was the aerial jammed in mine and snapped so I had to get a new motor as they don't sell the part I needed seprately. If the same happens you can get them for around £40 on ebay second hand, which is better than the something like £200 for a new one!
See white nylon bit below:

Be aware Mk.1 and Mk.2 masts are not the same. They're a different sized mast.
