MX5 Tow Bar - Silly Question Perhaps
Discussion
Hey,
I'm looking to buy an MX5 in the next few months, either a Mk1 or Mk2
I know that you can tow with the Mk1, but from what I've read the Mk2 is legally allowed to tow zero kgs.
I'd be looking to get a bike rack for a couple of MTBs - will I need to get a Mk1?

I think this was because at some point the EU decided that if the manufacturer wanted a car to have towing capacity they had to jump through an extra costly hoop. Before that date it was down to the manufacturer to specify.
Obviously, manufacturers didn't bother with the cost of this for sports cars. Its not legal to tow with a car that hasn't been rated. If you are carrying bikes then it is just like a bike rack.
You may have trouble sourcing a tow bar for your car, because its not legal then the market is small....
You might be able to get an american Curt brand 1 1/4" hitch from rockauto.com (they even prepay the UK customs fees), and an american 1 1/4" fitment bike rack elsewhere.
