So I have a budget of £3k, been driving for only 8 months so insurance is still quite a bit for anything. As I am young and a bit self image conscious I would like to get something that looks nice.

An MX-5 seems perfect, a good 2004 model with about 70k mile is only gonna set me back around £2500, the insurance is only £2300 and then down to £1000 after my first years no claims and it is a nice looking car.

So thoughts guys?

Great cars. Just watch for rust, which is killing a lot of Mk2 cars... Have a look at

I'd spend £1000 on a mk1.

What do you guys think about at RX-8? I like the look of the MX-5 a little more, but the RX-8 has so much more power.

I think you'll need a bigger budget.

I was looking and I can get a decent RX-8 for about £2500 and then £3000 for insurance first year. Fuel will be a bh, but I wont need to drive a massive amount.

Not so much that I earn well, but I live at home and I am still in education so I have no expenses, meaning that ana money I do make I can spend on whatever I want, in this case Insurance and fuel.
