As my wife can now only drive automatic cars, I am looking for an auto MX5 for her. Probably mark 1 or 2, possibly a mark 3 but we are not looking to spend loads. Anyone seen any good ones for sale?

I think these are only available as an import - I may be wrong but UK cars were all manual. They do exist just not that many around.

Fair few import Mk1's floating around with Auto's (some nice ones too, J ltds etc).

Never seen a Mk2 with Auto.

Mk3 they call it 'powershift' I believe, stick that in as a keyword search.

There are some Mk2 Autos around. Mazda never offered auto until the latest models and the UK market for small sportscars with auto is quite limited and values tend to be lower so fewer have been imported. They are around if you look for them though.

They all look pretty in pics, unless they are so far gone as to be worthless. Read up on the rust issues with MX5s, particularly the Mk2. Front chassis rails appear to be the big problem with these, as sills and arches can almost always be economically repaired if it hasn't been allowed to go crazy.

They only come as an import on a Mk1.....it's a Eunos rather than a MX5, although I don't think there is much difference to a UK MX5.
I own a Mk1 1.8 auto and it's a lovely drive. It's certainly nippy enough and I thought there was a fair bit of difference between the 1.8 and 1.6, based on a couple of test drives.

All the usual advice applies as with other cars...rust etc. The gearbox can be a little bit clunky going from 1st to 2nd but it seems to be a pretty robust box from what I've heard and experienced myself. There seem to be quite a few autos on ebay.

There's a MK1 for sale in my local rag, near Louth, Lincs. Advert says '1998 MX-5, auto, white, 64,000 genuine miles, full MOT with lots of service history. In mint condition, a genuine reluctant sale £1395 ovno'. I have no connection with the vendor, if you want the phone number pm me.

An almost identical reg number to my 1998 import MK2 RS. I wonder if Dandy Cars imported it and registered at the same time as mine?
