Hi there,

Had an annoying buzz thats just started on my mk2, managed to track it down to a faulty relay, it's one of the 3 relays tucked under the wing, behind the fuse box. It's just vibrating badly. I've been searching for one online and can't find one with this code 8B03 but can find plenty with the top code 3464-100-120, does anyone know how to read the codes ie. which bit is important and can i use a substitute with a different bottom code?

thanks

It's a relay. First number would be part number, the other may be a lot number, don't worry.

Again - it's a relay, a very simple device, same thing probably fitted to half of all Mazdas and performing several different functions.

You could just walk in to a Mazda parts department, faulty relay in hand, and ask if they have a new one. On something so cheap even a main dealer will struggle to rip you off that much.

Ok cheers for that, I really didn't know how specific there are so thought I'd ask.

One thing another person (an engine tuner) has mentioned is that a faulty relay doesn't buzz so it's unlikely to solve the problem, that it's bound to be the function that the relay performs that is causing it. Can anyone verify that before i get all excited about solving this!? Also how can I find out what the relay does without taking it with the engine running? Which sounds like a very bad idea if it manages timing or something else pretty vital.

Update. Got a relay and changed it, still the same buzzing! It's a modded mx5 turbo, I think something else is drawing a feed from it as its only supposed to be for the fan. No idea how to track this down but will figure something out.

What exactly does this relay control ? May be worth finding its earth point & starting from there
