now im not sure what limited slip diff dos and not sure if this one has it or the old one had it
what you think ?

Nice looking car.
The best way to tell if it has l.s.d. is to jack it up so both rear wheels are off the deck and turn one of the wheels.
If the opposite wheel either does not turn or turns in the opposite direction you have an open diff'.
If both wheels turn in the same direction (i.e. turn one as if you are going forwards and the other turns as if you are going forwards) you have an l.s.d. The benefits of this are that you do not lose all your drive to a wheel that is spinning, keeping it simple this means that to lose drive you would need to have both rear wheels spinning - unlikely in such a low powered car except in bad conditions.

The recognised way is to find an empty piece of tarmac and try to leave a big black 11 on it by spinning the wheels, with certain types of Mazda lsd the above jacking up advice won't work, as some lsd work the same as an open diff when not under load!

That's interesting... my recently bought Mk1 drives like it has l.s.d. but after jacking it up and checking I came to the conclusion that it hadn't. For all my older cars the above was a surefire way of determining which diff'.
I wouldn't recommend to someone that needs to ask on a forum that they try and lay an even "eleven"... despite their protests to the contrary most folk can't drive their cars properly let alone improperly smile (No offence meant to either of the posters as I have no idea what their skill level is)

If you don't want to do it on tarmac, try grass!

99% of imports have lsd, depends on what yr what type it might be . .

cheers for the reply's
I haven't realy driven it in the wet yet so il see what its like then, liked the step out feeling I got in the other one
the 11s should be easy enough to do smile

the car is a s-sp special edition 1.8 has bbs alloys, nardi wheel, mazda speed roll bar so probably has got lsd

There's been viscous, torsen, torsen 2 and Fuji-Tochida (or something like that). The last was on some later Mk. 2 cars and a clutch type, but it should be one of the first two on a Mk. 1.

S-special 2 = Early Type torsen.
