Posted in GG but thought id post here aswell..

Picked up my 2005 MX5 yesterday and noticed alot of road noise coming from the passenger side. After some googling i have gathered the drain hole flaps werent closing. Ive poured alot of water down and its coming out the bottom so draining isnt a problem, there was a thread on another forum refering to it as a seashell noise, quite echoey and you can hear the engine and road noise coming from one side of the car.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Thinking of doing this that i read on another forum..

"I bought a coarse filter pack for aquariums, stuffed some up from underneath the car (not so long as to disrupt the rubber valve - if it is still working) and then stuck the last bit over the top vents (with a modern wonder called 'Bluetack'.) Just been out for a run and what a difference, I can hear myself think and would now be prepared to undertake a long run without earplugs. Oh and I did test it and water does flow readily through to exit under the car"

I don't think I'd use that method. All sorts of crud gets washed down the drain-tubes and that would quickly cause a blockage.

Ive done a quick fix and put abit of sponge in it underneath the car. Going to give it a weekly flush out until i have money to fix or have the time to do something a little less crude! Cabins alot quieter now!

You may find the flaps have been completely removed. We did this on a few cars as leaves/dust/dirt will soon block them up so they can't open and then you have water fill the car.
