boot dimensions of a mk1 mx5
Discussion
Right, I've just been out with a tape measure and I'm afraid I don't think it'll fit.
At its widest point the aperture is 95cm (seal to seal) so there isn't a problem there. However it isn't that wide for very long (circa 30cm) so I doubt you'd be able to 'slide' the whole table into the widest section.
The problem is that the boot isn't deep enough. On the offside at its deepest point the boot may just cut it, but not for the full height of 17cm (sloping metalwork). However, on the nearside the boot is only 50cm deep. This could be extended a little bit by removing some trim pieces but I would suggest not enough.
I checked how much space is behind the passenger seat too, and it's less than 50cm wide so I'd imagine that's a no go too.
If the table is flexible then maybe a friendly owner/garage would let you fiddle around to see if it could be made to fit, otherwise I'm fairly sure it won't.
Sorry!

making use of the depth is a sod - getting bulky items behind the seal at the rear of the boot isnt easy...
if you over stuff the boot and have to "force" it shut you also risk getting upwards dinks in the bootlid. The metal is about as tough as a biscuit tin...

Sorry Wigeon didnt see your post, thanks ever so much for measuring it. Thats a bugger! I dont suppose there is any other small sports that it will be able to fit in.At its widest point the aperture is 95cm (seal to seal) so there isn't a problem there.
