Ok, so some lovely person kindly has bumped into my mk1 5 leaving the plate and surround cracked. I was never a fan of the centre mounted plate and surround... But am undecided what to do next... sticker plate (covers the holes from plate bracket) OR side mounted plate nd fill/ paint the holes in the bumper???

Any thoughts??

I did the side mount plate thing for not much more than £20 (mounting bracket and plate from teh Bay) - I left the holes for the plinth for ease of reverting back; once you've touched them up they're not massively obvious smile

Someone in a massive van did the same thing to mine. Better than the bumper getting beaten up i guess...

I'm contemplating the same thing, but just not sure on the stick on or the side mount! think i might just play it safe and go for central again. dont want the screw holes showing in the bumper really.

Most people fill them in and touch-up paint.

You will probably find quite a few scratch marks from the edge of the plinth that need touching-up also.

Side mounts look pap, IMO. Especially when people use bracekts that put the plate a good couple of inches out from the bodywork.

Stick on plate over the badge hole is the way to go IMO if you have a standard nosecone.

All the cool MGBs and Elans had stick on plates in the '60s.
The only way to go, in my opinion.

I don't like the stick-ons at all...

And I think the plinth ruins the lines of the nose...

And I don't like the side-mounts, they look too 'tuner' for my liking.

What I really want is a nosecone/bumper with a revolving section so that the plate revolves inside when the ignition is switched off...

Or maybe a transparent section, like on the old Citroen SM?

Think i might just take the plinth off and screw the numberplate direct to bumper, make use of holes, cover up scratches, no combersome plinth. win win?

Good choice, though you may still see some scratches from the old mount.

Ditto, definately no plinth required (i wish no number plate required, looks mean!)

I'm gonna make mine less free and order a new number plate, this one is all scabby, may as well do a proper job!
