Hey chaps, Quick one:

Fancy some suspension for the old girl.

I remember looking into this a while ago and the P5 kit was held up as the best coilover kit for road hooning.

Is this still the case? It's quite a new kit, Are they nice and reliable?

Cheers,

Rick.

I keep looking at the Gaz gold system but there are SSSSOOOO many reviews about random knocking noises from the rear shocks / quality issues that I back off. How many of you have them fitted and what are your experiences ??

Sorry to hijack your thread but it may help answer your question too

+++ last time I enquired about the p5 kit the waiting list was loooooooooooooooooooooong.

I have the GAZ Gold pro on my own car and on the PlanetMX5 Motorsports car. No issues whatsoever.
I believe they did have issues with noises before but these should all be resolved now.

ETA: On my car I did have some noise when they were first fitted but that was when they were set way too soft as I hadn't had a chance to play with them. Now I have them on a better setting there is no noise at all.

Also, I'm talking about the GAZ Gold Pro that is available from Absolutely GAZ, not the cheaper older GAZ coilover kits from MX5 Parts wink

Theres no reason AFAIK that you shouldnt get the sportdrives - the issue is that you prbably cant, because there a ball-ache to get hold off apparently!

Good choice biggrin
I have mine on 8 all round at the moment and it's a lovely balance between comfort, handling and traction. I'm going to try 9 all round when I get another chance to play...

Off to north wales for the weekend to blitz the triangle ect, Plenty of time to play smokin

Would you say 8 is a good setting for twisty, undulating moorland stuff?

If so I'll probably try that on the way down, Then adjust on the way back.

On a Mk1 the same setting should feel a bit stiffer due to the slightly different setup so I'd say try 8 all round as it feels to me like a good starting point but be prepared to play with it a bit. On mine, softer made it almost bottom out on bumps/dips and I haven't had a chance to try stiffer yet.
A trip to the Welsh B-roads sounds like an ideal opportunity to play with the settings though so have a play and let us know how you get on thumbup

I think there is good news on the horizon. The noises that Phil's has been trying to irradicate on these unit have been sourced and a solution found, so fingers crossed should be getting word on when we'll likely getting them soon.
I've had mine on order for about a year now so don't know how far down the line any new customers will be, but I'm sure once production starts proper, shouldn't be to long await.
