Yuppee! My MX-5 (central locking packed in)
Discussion
I've just bought myself a Mazda MX5 2000 1.8L!
I'm really loving it. although it sometimes likes to fill the cab with exhaust fumes. I'm getting that checked on Thursday.
when I bought the car on Thursday the central locking worked. then it was an intermittent fault. Now I need to go round and unlock both doors. Is this an easy thing to fix?
Cheers Stuart

I assume its the standard system. I have a labor intensive system where I have to put the key in the key hole. I have not done that in years!
Does the key then open both locks? Or just the one side?If so, it sounds like a fuse for the control system, rather than the locks themselves (although these can fail too sometimes).
It would be unusual for both actuators to fail together, I would suspect electrical before mechanical.

Yes I have to unlock one at a time. the frustrating thing is I have to use the key. I can't unlock the passenger door from the inside. I will check the fuses. I like it when they are to blame they are cheap!
Not being able to unlock the passenger door from the inside sounds like a stuck actuator maybe? The door card comes off with half a dozen screws and some gentle brute force, it'll take 10 minutes to check the mechanisms too, then you can rule them out.
Does anybody know of the factory central locking has relay contacts or optical? Ours is outside and it's cold out there! If it's relays, you might be able to hear them 'click' as you lock/unlock from inside the car. I might be talking through my hat here....
