20th Anniversary Edition
Discussion
I test drove a 20th anniversary edition mx5 on sunday, and was quite pleased with how it drove compared to my mk2.5 1.6. It looks stunning in white which is only available on this special edition and isnt a standard colour.
The reasons I decided not to buy - (alot of this is due to personal preference)
Far too much plastic in the cockpit. In areas where the mk2 just had carpet the mk3 has lots of plastic and it just spoils the interior and makes it feel smaller.
I dont like the alloys that this special edition comes with (too much like tsw venoms..) and the dealer was reluctant to throw in a set of different alloys to do the deal.
The cluth was really heavy, (I know this is most likely down the car only having 20 miles on it)
Plus points - It drove like an mx5, Mazda have continued to get it right, the engine felt more eager and I could feel the extra power over my 1.6.
The ride was alot smoother, the brakes were better.
The colour as I said earlier was great on the mx5 especially with the body colour interior trim the body colour style bars.

I actually quite like the standard alloys.
Phone around a few dealers though, you never know your luck and there might be one who wants to do a deal and hit a target for the end of the month
The alloys are better than the standard ones but if I'm buying new I want something I actually like.

I was offered a great deal (I think it ended up at 14.5k for the car otr), but I originally went in looking for an electric hard top model and got smitten with the white. Im going to hold off for 6months to a year and have a look again then, in all honesty Id rather buy second hand.

Nice.

I can see what you mean about the alloys though...
That is the full fat 2 litre JDM version which we, alas, do not get. Our Anniversary is a boggo 1.8 with a few trinkets and a paint job, and certainly not the gorgeous recaros in that pic.

OP - which dealer were you dealing with? I have just got an absolutely stonking deal on a RC Sport Tech.
Edit to add:

Are they black versions of the 18" wheels listed as an official optional extra in the brochure? Look like it to me.Edited by hornetrider on Monday 26th April 20:24

May I ask how much of a deal? I'm considering taking advantage of the buyer's market and would like to know how far I can realistically push the dealers, being a bit of a newbie at haggling with car salesmen...neon_fox said:
