Just bought a bootlid spoiler for my Mk 1 from Moss. It's the one that looks pretty much like the genuine Mazda one:

(Yes I do realise it's upside down.)

Seems complete, comes with three nice chrome plated bolts which presumably fit into the threaded inserts in the feet. Problem is, no instructions present although the Moss catalogue says it comes with them. A phone call to Moss revealed that actually, it doesn't so I have recommended they amend the catalogue.

So how do I get the thing on? The bootlid seems to be double-skinned in precisely the areas I need to get at and an online search has failed to turn anything up. Anyone here fitted one who can point me in the right direction? (no pun intended)

If it is a direct match it should bolt through in areas that are not double skinned

Mine is off at the mo if no one can turn up any fitting instructions I can take some pics with measurements in the morning and post them up if it helps ?

Can't see the pics but say the fixing bolts are 5mm, you could mark the upper face of the bootlid, drill your 5mm holes down through both the bootlid and the support framework underneath. Then open the boot, enlarge the holes in the support framework (but not the bootlid) to 10mm or so. That would give you enough access to the underside of the bootlid to get the bolts in and also get a socket in there to tighten them.

Ok crap quality pics but here goes

The ones closest to the side of the boot its about 18mm to the hole centres

The one in the centre is about 522mm

If you look at the under side of the boot the holes for the 2 side ones should be drilled through a part that is single skinned

Hope this is some help to you

Thanks MrV, that does help greatly. Looks to me as if the outer holes are just forward of the rubber pads, this would put the centre one in the region of the striker plate so removing that will enable me to get in there.

Have an Owners Club meeting this week so hopefully I'll be able to look at a few other peoples' to see how they did it!
