I'm looking at a Mk2 import and for the purposes of insurance quotes need to know if they are fitted with an immobiliser as standard. If anyone knows and could let me know i'd appreciate it.

Cheers smile

Not sure about factory fitted immobilisers but if the import was under 10 years old when it came into the country it will have needed an immobiliser fitting (Thatcham category 2 as a minimum) in order to get through its ESVA test. This is irrespective of whether a factory system was in place.

Obviously this wouldn't be the case if it were older than 10 years when it was brought over.

Last immobiliser I had fitted to an MX5 was about £100 - £120 for a Thatcham cat 2 so even if the car you're looking at doesn't have one, it doesn't cost the earth to get one fitted.

It would have been older than 10 years when it was imported, but thanks for the guestimate on getting an aftermarket one fitted - that's another option.

Many thanks.

No immobiliser and you'll find that, at least with elephant/bell/admiral it makes no difference to the quote anyway.
