Ball watches question
Discussion
Hi all,
I've got the opportunity to get hold of a watch for circa £1400 with some money left to me by my Grandma. I've seen a Ball Watches Deepquest on sale for c £1400 and really like it. What do people make of this brand? I know the price is good but how does it compare to something like an Oris? Are they well regarded as a brand?

Ball are highly regarded brand, although more so in Asia than Europe, mainly due to marketing and distribution links. However Ball are becoming more and more popular in the UK - Ernest Jones became a Ball Authorized Dealer a few years ago!
I loved mine and I still regret selling it ... to Cardshark on here
They were a lot cheaper a few years back, but with continued success and the usual price increases, prices are now somewhat higher. However their specifications are excellent and you still get a lot of watch for your cash!
I'd personally rate them higher than Oris. The bracelet on my Hydrocarbon was hugely sturdy and well constructed. I'd rate them up there with Omega, IMHO ...

Here's another shot
and one of the Ohio I used to have as well
As has been said, the Hydrocarbon was a very solid watch and is one of only a few that I miss, I passed it on purely as a fund raising exercise. The Ohio wasn't really my style at the time and never got worn, hence that went for the sake of a war chest as well.
Have you tried a Deepquest on? I'd advise doing so before you buy if you haven't as it's a big watch, particularly in case depth. It's quite comfortable, the titanium case makes the watch feel lighter than it looks.
ETA great choice of wheels OP, used to own a tweaked Liquid Yellow R26 myself. Miss that as well

Thanks for the advice guys! Yes I have tried it on, but on the rubber strap not the bracelet. Part of the deal would include the bracelet though. I'm quite used to big watches, I have a Seiko black monster and a few g shocks! It felt remarkably light on, I guess due to the titanium. The only thing I was slightly disappointed with was the feel of the bezel but I've read that you can tune the feel on it so will try that if I go for it. Tbh it'll be a complete desk diver. The deepest I'll ever go is snorkelling, but I'm a massive geek and something waterproof to 3000m sounds awesome! Given that its COSC certified, has tritium lume, is made from a block of titanium and is waterproof to 3k metres i thibk its a masaive bargain, though ive never spent anything like that amount on a watch before. Thanks again for the input. I'll update if I decide to go with it!
Re. The car... Thanks v much. Had it 3 years now and less trouble than the Toyota I had before it. A massively underrated car the R26. I love it, though you definitely had the best colour in liquid yellow.

Thanks for info folks. I went in and tried it on again yesterday. Really love the watch, now just waiting for a price with it on the bracelet rather than the rubber strap. If its in budget I reckon its a goer!
Are there multiple ones for sale at this price? I don't suppose you'd mind PM'ing the store details? Obviously I don't want to grab the watch you're after, but £1.4K on a rubber strap is a pretty good deal!

Get that bought, then worry about the bracelet in a couple of months time!

That price is stupidly good, so I urge you to get while you can.
Any previously sold ones on WUS (not many come up for sale pre-owned) have all been $2500-3000 with bracelet.
Even playing the reduce the VAT game, you'll find it hard to get them landed for less than £1700.
If you can't beg/steal/borrow the £300 needed, then by the time you do have it gathered, the sale might have ended or there's none left – even if by the end of the month.
Accept the strap isn't the ideal version, for the moment, but once the funds are available, you'll have the bracelet.
In the meantime, you might even like it as is, and decide not to bother with the bracelet at all or for a right good few months.
If there's a good chance you'll be able to lay your hands on the extra by the end of the month, then ask if they'll take it off sale with a decent deposit – the worst they can say is "no".
