Hi - I am looking to buy a blue auto tag aqua racer as a present for Christmas and have found one new for £1450. Is this reasonable? I don't know a huge amount about Tags
Thanks

Can you post a link to the exact model. There have probably been a few that match that description over the years.
I have this one that can be picked up for about that price from grey dealers.

Went into Goldsmiths at the weekend to get my wife some diamond earrings with club card points that were about to expire. Earrings looked crap but I had already converted vouchers so ended coming out with one biggrin . Paid £1650 but three times club card points. Will try and post pics later but it's a Calibre 5, blue face with silver bezel. Feels great on.

I've had the WAF2112 version for 9 years.

It went back to Tag for a service once about four years ago because it was losing time. It's now losing time again.

I hear similar stories from other Tag owners, so beware that the cost of the watch is not the end of it and you will need to budget for a service every few years.

Or buy a reliable watch in the first place frown.

As for as i'm aware the calibre 5 uses quite a standard automatic ETA movement. It was a total impulse buy for me as I usually do a lot of research before purchase. I have read a lot of bad things about TAG reliability / crap brand etc mostly on here but really liked the look and feel of this and it's a great addition to my small watch collection.

I had this for 12 months and loved it. Regret selling it.

I paid about 1100 quid from an outlet at Cheshire Oaks, so worth shopping around.

5 years ish is about the recommended service interval for mechanical watches isn’t it?

Get it serviced by a decent Indy for 1/2 what tag will charge, or less.

I ended up going for a quartz @ £1200. Obviously if it was for me I would have gone for an auto. But the person I am buying it for won't want to send an auto off for servicing or have the disposable for the astronomical cost. He will be very happy with this.

It's not to my taste as I personally think it looks too much like a homage to my Omega.

Thanks. I should have been clearer; it has never kept time brilliantly but is getting worse. Do you recommend any particular indy, please?

Not sure about service intervals but I inherited both an Eternamatic and a Moeris from my father which keep time perfectly and they haven't been near a watchmaker in my 53 year lifetime. Both also spent 15 years taking a battering in the dry, hot and dusty Kenyan climate.

Thanks

Ha! I ended up buying that EXACT watch from WF! They did me a great deal against my 20 year old Omega Seamaster 'Omegamatic' and the TH is a great looking 'daily' to give my more expensive ones a rest...

I thought it was REALLY blue when i put it on, but it grew on me. They had one for sale at the outlet in Bicester for a similar price new!

Nice watch tho!

Are all top guys.

The ETA movement in the Tag is derived from old Eterna movements, and should be able to run with great accuracy. I have a Tag Super Professional that is around 20 years old, has never been serviced and is still within COSC standards smile
