Advice on which watch to get for Mother in Law.

Must be brand new and a well known brand.

Any suggestions for which watch?

Thinking a Tag Heuer - in this this budget will be the lower models.

Also where to purchase from? Does not need to be before Christmas so can make use of Christmas sales?

Longines or Oris at that price. Do some research to find a model and then pm Dom on here to get a better price.

I don’t think you will get a brand new Tag Heuer for that price (or if you can there will be very little choice).

I know the OP has stated 'new' but there is currently a Ladies Monaco on TZ that would quite frankly pass for new, it is unworn and still has the stickers in place, priced a smidge over budget but that would be my choice. rotate

Tag Monaco 2017 watch 37mm 6 weeks old, never worn
So the story is in watch talk, bought this in WOS in terminal 5 in October for this wife and sat in watch box ever since. I took the croc strap and deployment off immediately and they have plastic still on, stickers etc still on watch.
This is a 2017 watch. RRP £1399 - Now £820

I would agree on this ... but...

Does your MiL "know" about watches?

I mean :

Only a handful watch brands are known to people outside the people interested in horology. I don't think Oris nor Longines are one of those brands. I can only think of Rolex, Omega, maybe Tag?

If I hear most people say "a watch from a well known brand", I mostly assume they mean "Armani", "Hilfiger", "Cartier", "Michael Kors", "Marc Jacobs" and the likes.
I know most people here will not like the sound of that but ime that's the reality.
What I'm trying to say is that there is a good possibility that she'd be happier with a 200gbp Michael Kors than a 750gbp Oris. :/

If she's not heard of Longines before, she's been living under a rock. They are a great brand, they have quite a profile through their sponsorship of sporting events. I'd wager she's heard of them.

I've been into watches for the better part of a decade now, I hadn't heard of them before then. Same with Oris.
But, proof is in the pudding, the OP could ask her.

There are a lot of interesting watches at that price point. Sinn springs to mind, however I don't know about their women's lineup.

The only brand non-watch people will really know is Tag. Get her a Tag quartz jobbie.

And the only problem with that is from the highstreet stores you'll need at least £1k for the cheapest, new, TAG Heuer.

At the £750 price point you are looking at a Longines, Rado, or Raymond Weil, and the 'fashion' brands. wink

Agree that she doesn’t really know about some of the better brands over some of the fashion brands however if I tell her about longines she will appreciate it ..

Her current watch is a Rado.

Well, get her a Rado, then. For some reason, some non-watch people also recognise Rado.
