Unfortunately the standard answer on PH is to dismiss Tag's as st

If you like the Aquaracer then .... Yes it' appears a good price
I'd look at this
https://www.chisholmhunter.co.uk/watches/swiss-wat...
I think Goldsmiths, Beaverbrook & Earnest Jones are all doing Tag sales

Again the default PH answer is Quartz watches are nasty and you really want an automatic
Something like this
http://www.creationwatches.com/products/tag-heuer-...

Of course for £1k I'd be looking at something line this
Ball Engineer III Legend - Massive saving by pre ordering for a quality Swiss automatic watch
https://shop.ballwatch.ch/legend
Other opinions will be along shortly .. no doubt

the formula 1 you showed is very reasonably priced - good spot

when it comes to repairs in particular, is there a big difference between quartz and automatic tags?

aesthetically an aquaracer with a black bezel looks so smart with a suit? it's got that slightly chunky thickness to it
https://www.swisswatchesdirect.co.uk/watch/way111a...

in all honesty all my friends (we're in our very late 20s) have never got their tags, rolexes, breitlings etc serviced when they're supposed to...

I did consider a longings heritage automatic
http://www.ernestjones.co.uk/webstore/d/4538781/lo...

but it's a very different watch... more dressy, less noticeable

that longines piece is nice. id take that in a heartbeat over a 1k TAG.

if you compare the longines piece and tag, which one would have?

1) cheaper repairs
2) better resale

thanks

I am one of those that will say negative things about Tags and quartz. I think they contributed to the general dislike of the brand. However, one of my most cherished watches is a Tag as they make some great watches as well.

Here is an option for you.

Me too. The Longines looks much classier to my eyes.

Fair enough. Enjoy your watch and ignore people like me.

I will leave my final thought on watches........

They are a gentleman’s (or lady’s) folly. The watch “experts” tell you that the most expensive and worst performing ones are the watches to go for. I have a watch that takes 300 people 9 months to build because it is more accurate than a “normal” automatic. After all that money and resources, it still isn’t as accurate as a $10 Casio. Therefore, watch people don’t make sense!

Buy with your heart and enjoy your purchase for years to come.

The Longines is preferable to the TAG to my eyes.

Thing is, if that appeals, a Tissot Visodate does the same thing for way less money.

In the same way, a Tissot auto chrono would knock spots off any TH product at similar price points.

Justayellowbadge - good shout and I did see them online earlier

does a tag aquaracer black bezel have more size/thickness and presence though?

mechanically the Tissot is better... but looks wise?

Buy what you actually like.

Personally, with a grand, it would be this:

https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Glycine-Airman-Airfighter...

Comes with a black leather so not as lairy as first appears. Brand with heritage, 7750, 3 time zones and a fantastic, unique, pusher mechanism, with 200M water resistance.

Your mates down the pub may not recognise it, but it is significantly more desirable by any other metric to a cheap TH offering.

at a grand i wouldnt even think about resale, its going to be negligible either way, its not far off fashion watch territory. just buy the one you like the most but for me the longines has much more about it.

fk me. Step away from the sherry JAYB.

But point taken, and well-made, about buying what you like.

OP - At this price, it isn't an investment. Buy what you and your girlfriend like, and enjoy it.

haha thank you all

on a sidenote, completely different style...

I tried on this monaco... is this an iconic piece and good value for £1350?

https://www.thbaker.co.uk/tag-heuer-mens-black-mon...

I wouldn't want the missus to spend this much anyway

The £700 watch I highlighted is actually £630 at EJ

http://www.ernestjones.co.uk/webstore/d/5009499/ta...

Then if you take the newsletter and 10% discount it's a £570 watch,

Most £1k watches wont hold spectacular resale value if worn but a TAG is a brand and will hold 1 or 2 hundred,
A quartz TAG should need a battery once in a while but i'd look on it as disposable rather than servicing it - based on expecting it to work for 10:15 years without a need for servicing
