Is a 2017 no date Sub at £5,450 a good buy? Seems cheap to me.

That's normal retail price for the 114060.

The 'Date' version is closer to £6,250.

Presumably there's no discount to be had with AD's on the Sub and Rolex S/S Sports Watches in general? What about other entry level models such as the Oyster Perpetual?

I’d say it’s virtually impossible to get a discount off any Rolex at an AD. With the relative weakness of the pound even grey dealers are struggling to offer discounted European watches.

Thanks, I'm looking at getting a no-date sub and a SS 36mm Oyster Perpetual (for a lady) so both fairly "entry level" for Rolex. I guess if any AD discounts are to be had it might only be on the blingy high end gold/bejewelled stuff.

Yes, you should definitely be able to swing a fairly decent discount on anything in precious metals or bejewelled, particularly if you are buying both watches at the same time.

As stated, you have next to zero chance of discount on the Submariner - they sell themselves & ADs can't get enough of them.

It'll be just a fairly standard Oyster Perpetual being bought alongside the No Date Sub.. SS with White Grape dial in 36mm so should be suitable for a lady.. Any opinions on this one?

Best to try a watch on in person than go off photos. The watch my wife chose for her 30th wasn't even one we considered when browsing the online shop.

As other's have said, a SubC ND is priced at that. If you try a shop that does 0% interest finance then you more than likely won't get a discount. Pay the full amount on card/cash and you may get 10/15% on a watch that isn't SS

Sorry, i didn't explain very well. It's a 2017 model, second hand, being sold for £5,450, rrp is £5,650.

Watch finder seem to be selling for a fair bit higher and considering there is a waiting list for them, I was just asking if it was a good no risk buy as can be sold for more elsewhere if I change my mind.

Thanks, I'll run it past my Mother In Law.. might be a fair bit more than she is wanting to spend. Lovely watch though.

I'm flexible. It's on Ebay for that amount & Ebay fees alone are >10% - would take closer to £5k. Looking for a quick sale

Thats the Rolex UK website (https://m.rolex.com/watches/submariner/m114060-0002.html) - the 'No Date' 114060 cannot be retailed as new by any UK Authorised Dealer for more than the RRP of £5,450. Rolex frowns upon inflating RRPs.

Second-hand sales are a different story, they can charge what they want - and Watchfinder are notorious for inflating prices. They have a huge share of the second-hand market and take advantage of the fact it's a seller's market.

That said, a 2017 second-hand model will still have the bulk of the 5-yr warranty that transfers with it, and is a solid buy. It's not like you'll get a discount on the £5,450 for buying new anyway.

Subs are hard to find in AD windows, but they are out there. The waiting lists (for the Sub at least) aren't that bad. A lot of people stick their name down at multiple ADs and then don't have the money when they get the call. With some persistence, calling regional ADs (not London), you should be able to get a brand new one within a reasonable time. There's 'Rolex in the window' threads on other Forums where people alert others to availability/sightings of sought-after models.

In terms of selling, the Sub will always be in demand, but I'm not sure you'll be able to sell it for anything much more than RRP. The Commercial re-sellers (like Watchfinder) are in it to make profit & cover overheads, so they'd probably offer somewhere in the region of £4,500 - £5,000 for it. That's quite a high price, but only because they're so easy to re-sell. You might get a desperate/lazy private buyer to pay RRP or a little more, but then you're into the hassle of sizable transactions with unknown persons & tyre-kickers.

Certainly, you'll lose little money, if any. The last ~9% UK price rise was 14 months ago. There's an awful lot of bullsh*t talked about imminent price rises, but it really wouldn't surprise me to see another uplift in the next 12 months.

Join a decent watch forum where members sell to each other and with a little patience you should be able to pick up an ND sub in 'new' condition at a decent price. Certainly below rrp or watchfinder prices.

I once had a thread deleted because I mentioned I was selling something in the classifieds. Nice to see the rule enforcement is consistent.

Nothing against you, Anthony, of course, I don’t see the problem with mentioning the classifieds, personally.
