Hi guys,

I'm keen to know, we all love cars/motorsport which almost naturally brings a love for wrist watches. For you what make a great motorsport inspired race watch and any example would be awesome. Would you even buy a motorsport/car inspired watch or stick to the classic dress watch?

Let the debate begin

Personally, I wouldn’t buy a watch that was designed with an association with Motorsport, simply because it feels a bit contrived (although I would probably make an exception for an original Tag Senna)

However, I would happily buy a watch with a Motorsport association, where the association came from the Motorsport community adopting the watch - this would feel altogether more meaningful, rather than just a marketing exercise.

I have one themed watch from Omologato - one of their spirit of shelsley watches, because of my association with the club.

Otherwise I'm a less is more sort of a chap

I've been SCUBA diving. It's quite important to know when you will run out of air. And, by happy coincidence 60 minus your depth in metres is about the number of minutes of air in a standard tank. So the markings on dive watches have a genuine use and do I own one, though in truth that one has never been in the water!

But I don't follow your motorsport to wrist watch logic; I think that's a bit tenuous, and I wouldn't buy a motorsport themed watch.

Lets not forget the speedmaster which started out as a motorsport watch.

Oh, I'm absolutely all for a motorsport tie in on a watch.
I think these are fantastic:
Also I select my breakfast cereal based on which kiddie's TV charater's visage is plastered across the package.
Seriously? What does it matter where the designer's inspiration comes from? You either like the end product, or you don't. Everything else is the emporer's new clothes.

Not for me, personally, but that's only because from the ones I've seen the designs haven't attracted my eye. But I'm not bothered otherwise.

Anyway, you might want this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mens-Scuderia-Ferrari-Wat...

Influenced rather than a branding exercise? Sure. Some of the CW motorsport watches are lovely.

Indeed, complete with a tachymeter that'll measure your speed at anything up to 600 miles per hour (provided you've got two fixed points 1 mile apart to measure against). Not a great deal of use when anything below 17,500 mph will result in falling back to the ground, but adopted by NASA because it was just so damned good.

For 'motorsport' watches go to kickstarter and read endless stories about heritage, inspiration and photographs of quartz movement, chinese made things with driving gloves and a B&W pic of a Bentley in them.

Just think - for the price of one Bremont car-inspired watch, you can have the entire Ferrari pit crew range!

A very tenuous one. I have the Porsche Sports chrono in my car

And this Carrera on my wrist

The watch named after the same race Porsche named one of their cars after. (I hasten to add the most tenuous part of this link is that my Porsche is not a carrera) I like how they both have 60 seconds on the face instead of hour markers.

My thoughts are that any petrolhead should have at least one - it would be rude not to. Most watches are boringly similar -
the motorsport theme is good as there's lots of cool ideas being tried out.

Here's a huge long list of Scuderia ones:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=sear...

Some quite cool ones too:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/CT-SCUDERIA-TESTA-PIATTA-...

Also search on the name for different variations and sales - all retailers are desperate for sales now so there's good prices to be had.

I used to own this, a G-P F1-2000, celebrating Ferrari's world championships in 1999, 2000 and 2001.

It's one of the few motorsport inspired watches I have seen that I like, and probably the only watch I regret sellng.
