Inherited a c1970 Omega Genève - advice wanted
Discussion
Hi all,
I’ve inherited my Grandads Omega Genève. From what I can find without taking the back off its a stainless steel case and dates back to roughly 1970.
It’s a little rough in terms of marks, scratches and damage but to me that adds to the charm, history and sentimental value. At the moment it doesn’t have a strap do I was thinking possibly Nato but unsure on colour - suggestions welcome.
Also it looks like a service is required as it runs fast (more than ten minutes a day!) Do we have a recommended person on here?
Sorry about the photo!
Thanks
Pete

That's in nice original condition.
Yes, it sounds like it needs a service.
I would ask for a new crystal too. A genuine crystal fitted will not be very expensive and it will make a huge difference.
I would ask for the case not to be polished.
Try Joe Horner at Anglesea Watch Company. If you tell us where you are, people might be able to recommend someone local to you.

You could go for a Shark Mesh strap which is period for that type of watch.
I would also recommend Joe at Anglesea Watch & Clock.

The Geneve is certainly is worth conserving.
I own a number of nice watches incl an IWC, JLC, Raymond Weil, Junghans and several Omegas. By far my favourite watch is the Geneve.
Its probably the cheapest watch I own and new was one the lower priced offerings from Omega at the time, however, its still very well made and works superbly you can feel the quality which I feel is superior to their latest offerings complete with Rhodium plates etc and to my eye looks great although mine has a blue dial and stainless strap.
They have also appreciated in price in recent years and a new crystal and appropriate strap with or without a case polish would make a very nice watch indeed.
