Is this watch a good buy now at £9k (for an as new 2017 watch, box and papers)

I bought a "batman" last year at a premium, and seems like a decent buy as prices have continued to increase

There is talk that the hulk will be discontinued, assume that has been priced into current market...

Thoughts?

laugh

Lunacy.

What you need to find out is what are they actually selling for, not what traders are chancing their arm advertising them for.

Probably not lunacy.

Perhaps marginal at £9k, but it's anyone's guess.

Just look at what the (much nicer looking IMHO) Kermits are fetching!!!

However, I wouldn't buy just for investment . Do you actually like the watch?

I've been interested in watches for about 20 years and have been dubious about the continuing rise of SS Roles sports watches for all that time.

They keep on creeping up year on year and I can't see any reason for that to change now.

I'd say the only thing to watch out for is a dealer margin if you have to buy/sell in the short term.

You can pick them up over in the US for circa £7,500 to £8,000.

This is for a 2018 watch, unworn in box, so you may as well save yourself a grand!

I put my name down at my local AD last summer and collected it within six weeks.Maybe lucky or just a lot of people drop out when they get the call to say they have a watch in stock.
I'm on the list for the new steel Sky dweller and a steel Daytona and am quite prepared to wait as really not interested in paying overs.

I would just ring around a few local dealers and get your name down and just wait.

To wear or to sell?

If the former, cheaper over here and readily available. If the latter, no.

The LV (aka kermit) is much nicer aesthetically imho

On a related note, I sometimes lose track of all these stupid nicknames...

Do all years of production of the hulk have the ceramic bezel?

My guy has a 2017 mint at £8.5K, even throwing in a green everest rubber strap for free-proper bricks and mortar uk jewellery shop and does shipping.

The most expensive hulk that has actually sold for real money on fleabay Is around £6600, and that is if you don’t wear it ,I don’t think you are going to get rich flipping this hyped timepiece . Why would Rolex discontinue a watch they have a waiting list for. As seen on this forum those who have waited have got there watch within a few weeks.

How do you know that? If you search ebay for Rolex 116610LV and filter to show only sold listings there are plenty that sold for around £8k.

I was very lucky when i ordered mine and i know a few people that waited well over twelve months. They are a stunning watch especially as in different lights the dial seems to appear anything from black to light green. They are obviously not to everyones taste but a genuine watch with box and papers unless collected from new will not be sold for £6600.

Wasn't he saying the same on the Rolex Waiting Lists thread, someone trying to talk the market down for some reason?

As if a post on a motoring forum can do that...

I had a brand new stickered hulk on the classifieds section a short time ago for £7000.
Only two people contacted me and neither wanted to pay over retail. In the end I withdrew the add and have kept it , still in the original plastic delivery box. In hindsight I'm pleased that I didn't sell it , but was surprised at the lack of interest.
