So after buying my sub in December, the AD phoned a couple of weeks ago to see if there was anything else I was after. I told them I was interested in a blue dial DJ41, and sure enough he now has one in. It's the fluted bezel version on an oyster bracelet, but I'll request a Jubilee bracelet instead.

I'm not looking at it as an investment or to flip, however unlike my sub I don't think this will be a 'forever' watch, and as I don't reeeally need another Rolex right now I'm trying to work out if it's likely to tank in value. I can't really find any equivalent secondhand examples to gauge it. Obviously if it was a sub or GMT I could just buy it confident that if I needed to sell again after a while I should get most of my money back.

I don't mind losing a bit on it, but I'd prefer not to lose a couple of grand over a year or two of ownership! There's too many other potential car/house purchases coming my way in the next year or two to guarantee I won't decide I'd rather spend the money elsewhere.

Cheers

Precious metal or steel if the former you will see a loss unless good discount obtained. Also thought its only available in precious metal with president bracelet all others are on the Oyster?

It's SS and white gold (fluted bezel is white gold only). The AD sent me a video and it's definitely an oyster bracelet, although with the polished inner links. From what I can see the premium for the fluted bezel/white gold is £1450.

This is the one: https://www.rolex.com/watches/datejust/m126334-000...

If this isn't a difficult model to get hold of I will see if there is any possibility of discount. I will also be asking the AD to swap to the Jubilee bracelet.

My name’s on a waiting list for a blue-faced jubilee, and I was told the wait was a few months (this was a few months ago...) - I’ve since changed my mind for the dark grey face, but still a jubilee has yet to appear.

Please don't take this the wrong way but if you're worried about losing money on a Rolex because you have a house purchase on the horizon, simply don't buy it. A watch should be waaaay down your list of priorities, not something you're tying up money you need in.

You most definitely can get that watch on a jubilee bracelet, it doesn't appear on their online configurator (apart from with the diamond face) but you can order it.

Lovely looking thing, it's actually the modern reinterpretation of my first watch so really appeals to me.

At the moment they are in short supply, not difficult to get and occasionally appear in windows but most are coming in to order (according to my AD). Although they didn't have one to sell I was allowed to try on one waiting to be picked up.

If production steps up and they become readily available I can't see you losing more than £1500 on one-simply as a second hand dealer would need to undercut a new one (by £750) and make a margin (say £750) in order to move it.

I would say however, the rumours of a 10% price rise are getting very strong now. Ok we've been hearing that for a good few months now but it happened around this time last year, even if it doesn't this year it more than likely will happen within the next couple.

So you could be £600 up on the deal if you get it before that happens anyway.

Photos of the watch on a factory jubilee (this example sans fluted bezel), July last year and I think this was their first after the Baselworld reveal.

You must be thinking of the DJII, DJ41 has the option of both bracelets.

Datejust 41 is available on either bracelet with both fluted and standard bezel.

The configurator says £6950 for a Blue dial, jubilee bracelet with fluted bezel.

I'm about to treat myself for my 40th, either the blue or black dial will be fine. Finding one in stock however.....

Dark Rhodium on the Oyster bracelet is a lovely looking thing imho, one of the nicest Rolex out there.

I'm not a fan of the Jubilee bracelet myself.

I tried on the DJ41 with the fluted bezel and Jubilee bracelet- both blue and rhodium faces. Mrs C preferred the blue while I tended towards the rhodium. Still haven’t decided- and there’s an underlying feeling that it’s all a bit too bling for me.
