So just been to see Red Sparrow with the wife and she's very taken with the square metal faced watch Jennifer Lawrence wears in the film. Twenty minutes of googling and still no idea but lots of pictures of JL on red carpets.

Then this forum full of experts occured to me. I will try and get a picture but it's unlikely. Has anyone seen the film and noticed the watch? Any clues?

Thanks in advance.

I haven't seen the film, but I suspect that Jennifer Lawrence is wearing a vintage piece in Red Sparrow. This is a vintage Omega, which looks very similar.

A few companies still make square watches.

The Nomos is probably the closest to the film watch, although it's in steel rather than gold. They're not badly priced for a quality mechanical either.

There are a few more rectangular watches, which have a similar look.

Thank you, that's brilliant. It would appear to be a 1966 omega deville - https://www.omegawatches.com/watch-omega-de-ville-...

Not found any for sale though. Any suggestions where to look? I've done the usual eBay, Etsy..

Also, it's quite hard to search for - 1966 omega deville throws up a range of different watches that don't look like the one. Searching by MD 161.0014 doesn't work on the usual sites?

How about a gold Cartier Tank on a leather strap. Square, gold, very nice.

Variety of sizes, and being Cartier it's a guaranteed hit with your wife (not that I know her, but based on all women loving anything Cartier). Tad pricey though

Thanks but I'm struggling a bit with the condition of that one. Chrono24 looks like a good site though. I also found the site wristmenwatches. Are there any other classic watch specialist sites?

You're after a mint condition 52 year old watch...? Good luck, starfighter.

True. True. I did more looking and... Anyhow, thanks. Have shown her watch (and modern alternatives) and we will see.

You can never go wrong buying your wife a Cartier Tank smile

The Cartier box alone quickens the female heartbeat....

If price is a concern, get the Nomos Tetra.

It's a modern watch, so will be more reliable than a vintage Omega, and a lot cheaper than a Cartier. It's also pretty close in appearance to the Red Sparrow piece, albeit in steel, not gold.

So bought an omega deville and am extremely pleased with it. Just wondering if it can be improved - see pics. The face is a little pitted and tarnished and the aftermarket strap looks cheap. Anyone know of a better source for straps? My local jeweler just sells rubbish. Can the face be cleaned?

Omega have a restoration department in Bienne, but I don't know how much it'd cost to get the watch cleaned up. But it'll probably cost more than the watch is worth.

One on eBay for £6.99. Save a few quid and spend it on yourself. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ladies-Square-Black-Fac...

Not sure if he will be able to help but ecain63 does excellent jewellery work.

Omega dials of this vintage don't generally clean very well and are exceptionally delicate, but a lot of that looks to be dirt and dust which will be improved a lot with a decent service. That De Ville will have a calibre 620 or 625 movement. I specialist in vintage Omega and have serviced huge amounts of them. This movement runs great when serviced properly but they often have oil contamination issues on the hairspring which causes them to run ridiculously fast.
They are well worth the time and investment in getting it serviced and consistently rise in value. Happy to quote if you contact me...

It was a soviet vintage square Raketa. It's 100% accurate information, because it was bought from a hungarian vintage watch collector.
