What feature/s or design cues or anything else causes your instant NO gene to kick in?

I could never have a Rolex with the magnifying glass glued to the glass.
Skeleton watches are no, no, no for me. I'd love a watch with a tourbillon one day but couldn't abide one with the face cut away to show same off.
Roman numerals are a straight red for me. Arabic or simple markers please. And this irritates me because I'd love a Cartier tank type watch but they only do roman.
Moon phase is verboten. Who really needs to know the phase of the moon these days?

Anyway, what features guarantee it's not for you?

I think you have to look at a watch 'as a whole' rather than individual design elements.

Having said that, diamonds are a no for me. But other than that, I couldn't say a particular thing.

I can't get away with a Tourbillon on a watch. Marvel of engineering but I'm not a fan of them from a design perspective. Same with skeleton watches.

Without even thinking at all hard:

California dials
Numerals crunched by sub-dials
Massive watches with smallish movements
Those U-boat crown guards
Trigger chrono pusher leavers by Graham
Onion crowns
Coin edge detailing to case / bezel
Jewel encrusted watches
Most skeletonised movements
Wedge shaped crowns & riveted straps on pilots watches
Open date windows

I'm less fussy than I used to be, there's plenty out there that I'm not keen on however there are very few straight red cards. In fact, I can only think of a couple - parallel bracelets and straps (except NATOs) and anything that looks like it was made out of Meccano or Lego. Oh, and anything that proclaims to have moondust or metal/fabric/whatever substance from any spacecraft/ship/car and so on making up any part of the watch.

Clipped numerals, coin-edge bezels, poorly matched or lazy choice of date wheel colour, overlapping chrono registers, bi-metals and many others are all tolerable dependant on the context and overall aesthetics.

Actually, just thought of another red card. Anything with Armani, Boss and suchlike on the dial. If that makes me a brand snob then so be it.

Chronograph pushers that have to be unscrewed, why? It’s completely possible to have waterproof pushers that don’t need to be screwed in and out.

I’m a bit ocd so anything unsymmetrical on the dial. A patek 5712 for example would annoy me endlessly.

Agree with the points about the date at 4.30 and cut off numbers a la IWC Portuguese.

Large Snowflake hands also grate on me.

Any men’s two tone watch - either go all in or don’t bother. Unless you are a scrap metal dealer.
