I really like the look of these, but can't find a great deal of useful info on them.

I have also heard that tag heuer are not a particularly well respected brand.

Never spent more than £200 on a watch before, so slightly nervous that I would be wasting quite a lot of money.

I'm also a little concerned about size, I have not found one locally to try on, but thought it might be a bit on the small side. My wrist is just over 8".

Can anyone offer any advice? All views welcome, or any suggestions for a similar styled automatic that is a more reasonable price.

Hard to know where to start, but here goes…

TAG Heuer is recognised as designing good looking watches, but the after sales/service side of things can be quite hit & miss. As such, they aren’t cherished, resulting in poor residual values – certainly worse than both Breitling and Omega, who, along with Rolex, are the only ones producing more watches each year.
A 42mm on 8” wrists is going to look fine, so I wouldn’t be overly concerned on that front, which is why I presume you’ve opted for the Calibre 17 rather than the Calibre 36?
The only real advice that’s relevant, is to try to decide if this is likely to be a long term keeper, rather than something you’ll be bored with in 6 months.
You’re not too bad on this one, apart from it being black coated, as the Heuer only branded models are slightly more preferred, which probably stems from the vintage side of things, before TAG bought the brand.

Use this as a bit of a yardstick for pricing, to see if you can get a more local retailer to match or get close to – https://www.chrono24.co.uk/tagheuer/monza-chronogr...

As for offering alternative suggestions – we’d need to know if it’s only a chronograph you’re looking for or a plain 3 hander with date. Then there’s budget, bracelet or strap, etc, etc.
You’d do well to spend plenty of time on the linked site to get an idea of what else there is, new and discontinued, and brands you’ve never heard of because they’re not as well known or on every High Street, since they’re not making ~350K pieces each year!

Thanks for that.

Will be a keeper.

Not particularly fussed about chrono.
I want black or brushed/blasted finish (I don't like shiny polished watches), I prefer a dark face with a flash of colour, eg red second hand. Don't Luke Roman numerals and want date indicator.

Budget already blown, so, say 3k max.

Whilst it wont be an investment to make money on (but I'd guess it won't depreciate like a stone either)..... If it's a 'special' watch and your only' expensive' watch purchase ....If it really appeals to you ... well why not,
Lot's of Watch Forum posters (myself ... Meistersinger & JAYB) to name two .... have a watch or two that others would facepalm and shake their head at .... BUT we enjoy our (not the usual suspects ..Rolex / Seamaster) watches.

The Monza should give a lifetime of quality timekeeping ..... I'd spend an evening reviewing other brands watches to confirm if this is the 'one' ... Should it be then you won't go wrong with it .... I'd say it's equal to an Omega, Tudor or Brightbling of similar price thumbup

Would be my only expensive watch and I would intend to keep it.

I quite like the Omega Speedmaster Pro and also like a titanium Panerai Luminor, but not as much as the Monza.

It was quality I was concerned about, as I have seen people slating Tag Heuer before due to the quality of their movements.

The only thing I wish it had was a glass back so I could see the mechanism.

Ah ... but that's deliberate ... So you can't see the 50p movement inside thumbup

Actually my personal favourite Heuer would be a Monaco Gulf

That is nice, and if I could afford a collection of watches in that price range, it would find a place, but it its not 'the one'.

I saw you had bought one when I searched PH, wondered if you still had it.

I don't suppose you have a shot of it on your wrist do you?

Ignore all the brand snobbery and investment nonsense if the Monza is what you want to get.
The movement is a modular one shared with the Omega Speedmaster so not a shabby movement at all.
If the style and size works for you then buy it.
