misty crystal

guys so my friend washed his hands with the crown open on his bretling navigator and it's misted up in the center of the crystal what would be the best way to clear it ?... many thanks.

I would wrap the watch, with the crown pulled out, in a sheet of paper towel then place in an open container of rice (uncooked!) and place somewhere warm like an airing cupboard for several days. The paper towel stops any dust getting in. Depending on how which water ingress there was it may need to be left for some time.

I might also bring forward the next service, or send to an independent, who can look inside and check for corrosion, and re-lubricate as necessary.

I had a bun-fight with a High Street retailer of Breitling in 2014.

I had a misted crystal after being caught in a torrential downpour and soaked through my shirt, into the watch, crown intact.

Navi's are not the best for any water.

Did the warranty claim...not fit for purpose etc...they wanted GBP1200 (inc/exc VAT??) for a service, cleaning, possibly new face and hands.

Then got them on the fact all the literature on my Navi GMT World was different in terms of water resistance. The back of the case, AD's own web-site, instruction manual and Breitlings own web =site.

In the end, AD offered, FoC repair, new Navi or an equal value alternative. I went and got the Omega AT GMT Chrono 43 which has proper water resistance.

So I would say somewhere between GBP600 to +GBP1200 depending on what is needed/what you want to do?

Im assuming you mean a Navitimer.
They are not Water resistant enough to even have on the sill while you are washing the dishes, never mind wearing it with the crown open while doing the dishes.

Anyway, if the moisture has made its way to the middle of the glass then the chances are it will have passed by so many components on the way and you need it looked at asap.

I would happily check it over, for the cost of the postage. If anything is found to be amiss, i can let you know.

Get the case opened and the watch dried as quickly as possible. If your friend leaves the moisture in and it damages the dial, the cost to put it right will be staggering.
