After a family bereavement I've been clearing the empty property and found this in a drawer.

I've got a modern DSSD and a Panerai. I know nothing about Omega's, let alone potentially vintage ones.

Can any of our resident experts enlighten me to it's authenticity, age, exact model and perhaps ball park value?

Thanks in advance.

First off, I'm no expert, but I do have a couple of SM300's.

It looks like a 'big triangle' 165.024, the civilian version of the military dial. They are not common. If it's pukka, and it's hard to tell from the not quite in focus photos, it'll be worth a bit of money.

Year wise, you can date it approximately from the movement number. It'll be late sixties I'd have thought.

Get it to a recognised specialist to check it's all original. If they service it, make sure that the dial and hands and bezel in particular aren't messed about with or changed. Last thing I'd say is I have no idea what that bracelet is, but I don't think it's Omega.

Thanks for all that.

Is "big triangle" a thing? Does that make it rare?

The bracelet isn't Omega as far as I can tell. If I keep it, it will be going on a NATO.

Could you give a rough estimate of value?

The triangle is simply the top marker. On most SM300's they would look like this:

The one that you have is a copy of the version issued to the navy, and it's rarer than the one I'm showing above. The one I've posted also has a serif on the 10 on the bezel. Yours doesn't, which makes me think it's original to the watch, because the one abovehas a service replacement dial, bezel, case and dial.

What's it worth? Depends. If it's completely original, and I have no idea if it is, there's one on Chrono24 for somewhere north of £10k. What it's really worth though is what someone is prepared to pay for it.

I'll kick off the bidding at £250. And I'm doing you a favour there........

Yours looks great by the way.

My one has loads of patina and the lume is yellowed.

It's worth more unrestored I'd imagine, yes?

There's value in the patina?

Yours looks spot on. The dial and hand ageing looks very similar, suggesting they are of similar age. Also the 6 & 9 are “open” the replacement later dials are usually closed.

IMHO £10k would be a strong dealer price.

I recon it’s more likely worth £5-£6k as is. Restore it with new dial and hands etc, £2-£3k, might as well get a Watchco...
Also it would ruin the watch, let a good Indy service the movement and leave it as is smile

Great find!

AFAIK, there are no genuine service big triangle dials. There are hooky ones though. As for an Indy service...... there are Indys and Indys. Best to go for someone who knows vintage Omega (and has access to a big stock of vintage movement bits). For me, it would be STS.

Original, rather rare and valuable.
Take it to STS for a movement only service, ditch the non-original bracelet and stick it on a nice NATO and wear in good health.

NATOs work, but they look good on other (relatively) inexpensive straps too.

A period correct ISOfrane:

A period correct Omega mesh:

Or a normal sharkskin:

I find I wear mine on ISOfranes mostly. They are really comfy straps, and keep the watch centred without being too tight.

Did not know that smile

Yeah agree STS would be the best bet for this. I just meant not to send back to omega.

Just seen your isofrane strap, not sure if you know but http://www.obrismorgan.com/natural_rubber_01_aquab... do a great isofrane a like strap for about £10, in various colours.

Ooh.. It's looks nice on official Omega shark mesh.

Still undecided what to do with it. Will get a movement service as advised on here, but I think it's a bit small for me despite how much I love it's patina etc, so might move it on.

Any advance on the very generous offers of £250 and £300 I've had so far...

Depending on the value of the estate you might not want to publicise the value of items found in a drawer.

Probably paranoid, but you never know.

Lovely thing btw.

Small? Aren’t they 41mm?
