Oh no not another Rolex thread rolleyes .
I've been on all the local dealer's lists now for well over a year. Who's got one, did you pay list, how long did you wait and how do dealers allocate watches?

Got mine launch week, paid retail, sold it within the week. I've never really liked the Daytona but wasn't going to pass up on getting one, the ceramic is much nicer that the older model but i've stuck with my WG one which incredibly you can buy for cheaper than the price I flipped my ceramic for.

Got both, paid list for both. Definitely wouldn’t pay a premium for either. They’re very nice watches but I haven’t really worn either since I picked up a PP a few months ago. I guess if you resorted to man maths, you could argue they’ve been at £15k+ consistently for two years since launch on the grey market - so if you did pony up a premium, you probably wouldn’t take too much of a bath if you had to move it on.

I have purchase history from my AD, helps that the mrs has a hard on for Datejusts, and I bought a TT GMT from them before I became obsessed with SS models. They can’t say I’m only after the cream, because I’ve bought slow sellers in the past too.

At this point I wouldn’t like to be new to the game because demand far outstrips supply, and you’re going to have to do something big to get on an AD’s radar and have them sell you a watch they could sell 100x over to their existing customers.

Some people have got lucky finding them in airport ADs. Aside from those, I think you will be in for a long wait.

When did you go on the list and how did you get it so soon? I have bought a Sub and Daytona over the last ten years from local AD. It also turns out the manager from one shop was an old family friend.

I put my name down about a month after Baselworld and got it within a month of public availability. Paid list. Had bought the previous model Daytona 3 years prior after a 4 month wait (had been told to expect it to take a year).

I’ve heard that the waiting list at the AD is now very long, as more and more people have jumped on the bandwagon. I thought it was pretty nuts pre-ceramic, but now is just silly and has obviously extended to pretty much all SS Rolexes.

Got mine last week, around 10 or 11 months on the waiting list.

Paid list and was offered £5k over list the very next day.

Didn’t gel with it at first but it is a very, very nice piece-it was my intention to flip at £15k but I quite fancy keeping it now.

Well the experience on this thread is that it isn’t.

I agree that although lovely it isn’t anything special, it’s a stainless steel watch.

My end game was/is a white gold panda dial Daytona on tan leather, I saw a ceramic Daytona as an easy way to get one as I can flip it for more than I can import a white gold into the uk for.

Problem, as always is now I have the ceramic-it is a lovely thing to keep hehe

mine is a 50th birthday present to myself so I have 2.5yrs until then. 6 months in already so even if it came in the next year or 2 I'd be overjoyed (and) surprised).

That's the problem isn't it, they ARE actually REALLY nice, so as tempting as the cash is I REALLY like it and now not sure how easy it would be to get another one at list!

getting on a list might be a problem as a lot of places stopped adding people not long after last xmas...could try a local friendly and maybe a big chain as comparison....

I'd feel as though karma was coming to put me right and I'd never get another one!

There obviously is some of that but then sometimes you just need to give yourself a shake and remind yourself it's just another watch.

Been on the list since November 2017, pick mine up tomorrow all going well, not sure if I will keep it as I want a Batman.

Dealer is suggesting they will keep the warranty card for the first 12 months though.

That has been a short wait, Lord V. Good for you.

Hoping that I'll get the call one day.

Can I ask which dealers people have got on the list with?

I’ve tried numerous ADs in the North West to no avail as well as some whilst abroad

I’ve bought 2 watches from David M Robinson (Datejust and GMT Master 2) and couldn’t get on the list there

Any help appreciated!

A second hand watch dealer here in Melbourne had a steel and ceramic Daytona with the black face in the window earlier this week. When I passed today, it'd gone.

I enquired what it'd sold for, and was told $28,000 (Australian), retail Down Under is $15,700.

The guy I spoke to reckoned that the authorised dealers pass all the desirable pieces onto the grey market, where they can be sold for a profit. I don't know if that's true, or just him talking his own book.

Also bear in mind that there are quite a lot of Daytonas out there. Chrono24 will often have three hundred for sale, and if they are being turned over by the dealers, Rolex has to be pumping them out. The fact that a few people here have got them with less than a year's wait suggests availability isn't as tight as reputed.

Just picked it up; first ever purchase too, although I was always calling and emailing and I think they got fed up.

Was from Mappin and Webb, North West area, they are keeping the warranty card though for 12 months.
