A member of a FB group I am in recently (Tuesday of this week) sadly had a break in at his home in Trinity Road Bilericay, amongst cash, jewellery and wedding gifts the thieves also got away with 2 Rolexs, 1 in box with papers the other on it's own, a reward has been offerred for information leading to the return of missing items.

They`ll have already been sold in the pub for £350 for the pair.

Good luck finding them. Uncle had 3 Rolex's each worth 20k+, large amount of cash, jewellery stolen from his house in Guildford a few years back and nothing has come up yet even with the serial numbers reported. Truly scummy people out there.

Just got to hope that they are recovered by the police and they input the serials so it's flagged before being disposed at auction.
Not a Rolex but a friend had the insurance pay out after losing his watch on holiday in Europe then over a decade later had it returned out of the blue after it went in for service!

Report it to rolex directly, you might get it back if it ever goes in for a service but it'll most likely be a buyer who isn't aware of the watches history.

There's also a public regiser maintained by the guys on the rolexforum and sellers in the industry i can't remember the name so you'll need to have a dig about!

Report them to the Rolex lost & stolen register.
Always worth a try, as the majority of the time, an honest Watchmaker will check the list .

The problem is they won't end up at auction, they'll be sold to other scumbags.

As far as I know, Rolex no longer operate a lost and stolen register. It stopped in 2011. Happy to be corrected.

Hopefully he returned it to the insurance company and put the buyer in touch with them? If not then...

I’ve always wondered.
I’m insured through Hiscox who are extremely good and I have a new for old policy,
If someone nicks my Daytona, what do they do ?
I assume they don’t have special access, how do they return me to the state prior to the theft?
Give you the money for a replacement or source one for you on a like for like basis.

The HNW insurers I know would discuss if you wanted the same vintage or a "new one", or give you the cash based on the value of the nicked watch.

All presuming the watch's value was disclosed properly or within the value limits that don't need specific disclosure.

That’s the theory but makes to account for availability.
What if I want a new one as the policy states?
Do they have access to supplies the public doesn’t ?
Or would you have to wait several years to get the replacement?
A company selling a true premium policy would source from the grey market.
A "normal" household policy would give you the cash equivalent of list.

Hiscox?
It's been a long time since I dealt with them.

A quick Google suggest you don't have to declare items up to 15k so you would get the pre loss value if it's less than 15k. They would have to pay you the value of the watch not the list price.

Edited to add - or give you a replacement.

Hiscox aren't as flexible as the likes of Chubb and ZPC.

With hiscox my Daytona is insured for replacement value also declared as an item above the 15k. I asked this exact question given the list is so much lower
