I am not here to collect loads of watches, but I got my Louis Moinet Jules Verne III today

I have another much cheaper watch to wear, but do I wear this one, or just stare at it and hope it will appreciate in value?

I don’t mean to be a newbie idiot, but would appreciate views from those in the know

I love the watch forum.

You should seal it in unobtainium and bury it in the garden for your grandkids to find.

I do that with everything I buy with an RRP above £100.

If you've bought it as an investment then don't wear it. If you've bought it because you like wearing it then do so and enjoy it. Or is that too logical?

Lol

Can’t help.

In a similar boat, I have seen a 70s NoS Zenith Sub Sea that is almost mint, I would love to own it but would not trust myself to wear it in case it gets damaged.

I can’t add another watch to the unwearables list... Can I?

Never buy a watch because you hope it may go up in value. Buy it to wear, admire and use.

Haha and thanks for the different views. I mean that sincerely.

When i get obsessed about something l always look for something limited edition/rare, so I hadn’t thought about what I would do with it. I am agonising now as it is really beautiful

I am hopefully getting my new Wyler Code R in the next day or 2, so maybe I will hold off on the decision re the Jules Verne for now. I have zero will-power

Thanks, much appreciated

Buy a watch and do what you want to do with it , it’s of no concern to anyone but yourself you mean ?

I was looking for a Corvette 78 Pace Car years ago and looked at several - one still wrapped in factory covers inside and had about a dozen miles on it. If it wasn't for the fact that the engine was probably shagged, I'd have bought it and drove it like I stole it....exactly like it should've been in the first place.

Art hangs on walls. Watches hang on your wrist.

This. If it's rare/expensive/an appreciating asset then wear with care. If it does happen to get marked have it refurbed/serviced and it'll be as good as new.

Err… umm… you might as well get some use out of a depreciating asset, rather than stare at it.

I don't know if it will appreciate or not but I doubt that if it does it would be anything significant?

Buying a watch/car/bike etc. to keep in pristine, unused condition essentially for the next owner to enjoy is, like marrying a supermodel and not having sex with her so that on your death some young stud will get his grubby mitts on her.

My thinking is that you only live once so if you like the watch wear it, if not don't buy it.

Wear it.

I wear a ceramic Daytona most days. I do take it off to give to the baby, as he’s teething and likes to chew on it, and it’s hard to upset him through saying no.

I agree, watches are meant to be worn.

My 9 month old is currently having a good gnaw on the rubber Everest strap on my GMT Master II - she’s got a front tooth coming through. She seems to prefer watch straps to the proper teething toys we bought her....kids!
