Just in T3 at Heathrow and popped into the AD for Rolex. Next to me was a guy buying a Daytona . According to sales manager it was down to pure luck he enquired and by luck they had a new one . There’s no list and they only just received it .

I find this quite amazing that a no loyalty shop, such as an airport that just has through traffic, gets these ahead of AD's and boutiques where there is a huge waiting list ......and we on those lists have to prove our loyalty being 'informed' we have to demonstrate brand loyalty by buying crap they can't sell - sorry - pisses me right off!!

Did you see which Daytona is was?

If it was a boggo steel I'd be stunned. I've seen the steel & golds in there before & other pm ones. But I asked once & they just laughed at saying you're more likely to get a plane to the moon from here than get a SS Daytona

But the way the OP has explained would suggest steel? Come on OP little more detail to satisfy the curiosity!!

My local AD (Michael Spiers) doesn't have any waiting lists at all, they just do it on luck of the draw. If you go past the shop window and there's one there, you're lucky. I rang them up in the summer after getting told after 6 months on the waiting list for a SS Submariner Date with Goldsmiths Torquay that they were no longer a Rolex dealer which really pissed me off, rang Spiers and they told me they'd taken delivery of one that hour and would hold it for me. I know these aren't as rare but Spiers have 4 branchs I think, if each one probably gets a couple of SS daytonas a year then its more than possible to just pick one up (fingers crossed my timing is right again!)

Sorry for the delay and now I'm back and I can tell you all it was a stainless steel and gold.

Even if I was lucky enough to be in front of him I doubt I would have been interested as IMO the stainless steel is the one to go for .

They had an E1 and an E2 in a few weeks ago when I was passing through. Not even in the window, in a drawer. The Daytona they had was gold at the time.
All at tax free prices!

They do have random stock, when I popped through a few weeks ago sales man told me he had sold a Tudor BB GMT in the morning.

Yes it's all the luck of the draw, though I've never seen anything particularly interesting when I've popped in.

Getting a Tudor GMT is impressive, but I was under the impression that PM/TT Daytonas aren't particularly difficult to find.

Was reading the Rolex forum last week - some lucky bloke picked up a BLNR at Heathrow last week. They also had an LN. Wouldn't have thought it lasted long...

ETA thinking about it, if you're going to buy a PM or TT Rolex surely you're better off getting it from your local AD rather than an airport? You should be able to haggle something off RRP, plus you might be in the AD's "good books" when something desirable comes in...?
