Hi all,

Having just added another Speedy to my collection, I'm wondering how people insure their watches?
Last year I added my existing watches to the house insurance but they only cover up to a maximum of £10k in jewellery. I will now need more specialist cover.

Pretty sure there's plenty on here who have watch collections worth a lot more than mine - how do you insure them?

It will almost certainly be cheaper to change home insurer.

Yep. Change insurers. As long as you don't live in a burglary-ridden postcode, adding any amount to your home insurance should be easy.

I've got home insurance with Tesco insurance, cover seems comprehensive enough and they were very reasonably priced.

Single-item limit of £20k although anything over £2k needs to be declared for cover outside of the house but It didn't cost much to add a couple of £6k watches.

Can't vouch for whether they'd pay out easily though...

I have used Chubb for many years - but they're not cheap.

Do double check that they might insist on the watches being kept in a safe, window locks, burglar alarm etc.

I mentioned on here the other day about watch insurance specialist TH March but they are very expensive as single or multiple items.

My house insurance is going to Hiscox this year as my understanding is that you do not have to declare the watches you have or their costs. Give them a go....

I always use gocompare.com when it comes to house or car insurance. I usually go for the cheapest one. However, when I contact them and try to include expensive watches, they don't want to know. At the moment I have my watches insured by Assetsure.com. They seem to cover them for anything, anywhere. Though not cheap, it gives me peace of mind. I told my house insurance company of this but they still put my insurance up as even though the watches were covered by another company, it still made my house more of a target apparently. I can see their point but it still pisses me off. Will be watching this thread with interest. It's all a game of hoops and is a ridiculous waste of time come renewal every year.

Renewing earlier this year a few insurers insisted on a safe. Safe is £400, would save £100 a year soooo, ought to buy a safe for next year’s renewal I suppose. I renewed with Hastings Direct in the end.

Yep, I'm with Hiscox. I don't need to declare either of my watches because each is worth < £20k.

Legal and General had no problem insuring two 5k watches on contents insurance. I seem to remember that the second required an additional payment of about £30

Just make sure that 'contents' also covers items taken outside of the home and on holiday. Not all policies are the same, some insurers have separate sections for the all risks cover of items outside the home.

In general, most policies chosen from the comparison websites will not handle watch cover well. You need to use someone like (there are others) NFU, Hiscox, M&S, etc. Most of these types of policy either have all risks on everything every where within policy limits, or have a separate section to cover what you need for watches.

Direct line do a select policy. Much cheaper than going through a specialist insurer for those high value items..

Marks and Spencer home insurance do a shockingly high level of valuables included in coverage! I've just changed to them.
