Watches through airport security

Yep an odd one, but bear with me.
I do alot of traveling, so frequently pass through airport security with my watch. I always find myself in two minds. Do I leave it in my bag as it passes through, or do I set it on the tray for all to see.
I'm not the owner of anything particularly fancy (Tudor) but I still hope it makes it through to the other end without getting damaged or half inched.
Most of the time I pack it in my bag, but never forward plan and leave an empty (scratch free) pocket.
Ok so it's not quite an interesting topic, but how do those Rolex and equivalent owners deal with it? Any dramas? Is it a tense time for you? :-p

Yes it's a tense time for me. The watch isn't the only thing I'm worried about, there's a lot of "things" in the tray at the other end whilst I'm being searched/scanned.
I always wear the watch, and it always gets just a cursory glance. Sadly though it's probably the one thing that makes the machine bleep so I always get pulled for an extra random search.

Well for me, it nearly always has to pass through in a tray.
Then, when the queue is massive waiting for trays to pass through, it's often a lot longer than 1min.
Addtionally (it's happened before) I've had to leave the tray my watch has come through on, to go deal with a check on my hand luggage case.
Always been ok but the thought does cross my mind how easy it could be for someone to swipe it.

It would take massive balls for a thief to pinch your watch from the plastic tray in the security check area of an airport. Lots of security, lots of cameras, must have had positive I’d check before entering the area.
If your so paranoid about your watch suggest you buy a cheap piece for travelling.

Only time I’ve been pulled in the last year of flying twice a week was when I accidentally left a bottle of Tabasco sauce in my bag from lunch :-)

Yeah I agree with what is being said, it's unlikely to get stolen.
Perhaps I am being paranoid. It's literally the only time the watch will be off the wrist and freely on show to a load of people.
Yes, if I was sporting something fancier I'd be more concerned but not enough to substitute it with someone else.

Sensible, and the approach I take.Oftentimes, the tray can make it through well before I myself get scanned, or lifted away to a search area, and even if it's unlikey (I hope) that staff will nick anything, if left loose & in view the chance is there for an opportunist passenger to slip it into a pocket and be away into the warren of shops & bars whilst I'm still getting felt-up by some over-enthusiastic staff. Cynical perhaps, but I tend to think it's better to deny an opportunity for a problem to arise in the first place, rather than rely upon the values of others.
Even if theft is not a concern, it's just not sensible to leave a load of loose stuff in the tray, too easy to forget small items (I recall one undignified dash back from a gate in Gatwick when the wife forgot her wedding ring). Better to stow all in the bag, then lift it all at once away to a quieter area to sort it out at your unpressured leisure (and also help the security process move quicker, instead of dawdling there like an idiot).
If I'm wearing a jacket, then watch, wallet & phone will go into the pockets.
No jacket, they go into a soft pocket in my laptop case.
No jacket, no laptop case - I'd hide the valuables beneath a newspaper or within anything else required to go through the scanner.
Chances of getting stuff nicked at a central search? Probably negligible, but I'm happier removing any temptation by not having those items on show in the first place.
