Pocket watches
Discussion
One of my colleagues is retiring soon, we'll be having a whip-round and are thinking of getting him a pocket watch - he's a railwayman so it's quite a traditional thing in the industry.
I reckon we'll have a budget of £200-300. Any recommendations at this price point?
I've been looking at this range so far: https://www.tissotwatches.com/en-gb/shop/all-our-w...

What about the Mondaine Swiss Railway pocket watch?

Do you think he’ll wear it or is it just for a keepsake?
I do think he'll wear it - he's planning on moving to Yorkshire, and plans to work as a signalman on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, so it would fit in nicely with the uniform he'll be wearing. Thanks for the Mondaine suggestion, I'll pass it on to my colleagues for a look.

You need to use a pocket watch to realise why wrist watches took over. The result is, like old treadle sewing machines, well made antique pocket watches sell for little money. Of course you need to find one and it is likely to have no guarantee.
The irony in this statement though is how many people now use their phones to tell the time, which is almost the same amount of faff. This Mondaine ones look great in the flesh having seen them in stores. Especially if they have the trick movement that holds them at 00 seconds.
